Hey, let the OP go. It looks like she wants to move from the armpit of the country to the butt-end of it. Sounds like a real fair tradeoff to me.

Wanna Leave Penciltucky will become famous soon enoughWanna Leave Penciltucky will become famous soon enough
Born and raised in NJ left in 1991 came back 1995 and then LEFT for GOOD in 2000. I can tell you I could not stand the insane building that happened in Burlington County that RUINED the feel and flavor. I moved to Southern PA which has the feel and the flavor, but I miss NC all said and done.
NJ became insane in the 80's I can only imagine what it was like post 9/11 as NYC poured into NJ.
NJ towns did not do any moretoriums on building, Like they should have. They did not preserve open space, like they should have, they did not make allotments for the schools they were going to need to build, lke they should have. The biggy is the NJEA, the teachers were horrible, they were and are overpaid crybabies and they should be tenured on merit not some union contract. NJ keeps lousy teachers, which is why my parents sent me to private school after they figured out the teachers were backed by their union and could not be made to improve in the least.
I agree with you about NJ and to prove it I only have 2 relatives still living there. An elderly uncle in a care facility and an elderly aunt who won't leave till they take her cold body out, nuff said.
NJ was wonderful, now it is not. That is not harsh, it is MY OPINION.
There is a whole world outside of NJ. With Corzine as govenor the state legislature is going to seize up and the fall out will cost you and the war is going to be bad.
Call it harsh if you like. NJ has nothing to offer that is worth that much trouble. I can find the same amentities many other places. Places where your not next to a superfund site. The amount of superfund cites in INSANE.
It s just not worth the cost.

'NJ was wonderful, now it is not'...as opinion as it may be it sounds like someone saying: music used to be good, now it sucks...
It is definitely expensive to live here but don't tell me this place has nothing to offer, whether its worth cost or not there a millions of people who pay a lot of money to stay here. I've beat up on this thread before but I'm still going to give my own opinion.

NJ is a nice place to visit, my in laws live there, in Ocean County. However, I could never live there. I just can not afford the taxes, tolls, houses etc. Plus the drivers...woooo, that is another subject all in its own. You speak of CA in this forum, I see an AWEFUL lot of California stop signs here in NJ. I do LOVE the food, the Italian bakeries, the bagels, pasteries, boardwalks...again great place to visit, but I could not live here...OH and I also love that you do not have to pump your gas!

What's a "California stop sign"? I didn't know they had their own version.

Yeah me too. I lived there for 40 years and the stop signs (well the ones that weren't shot out or graffitied over) look pretty much the same as around here in MO. To the OP, wow that is gonna be a huge move if you are set on heading to so CA. We just flew the coop outta there but I'm not gonna come in here and slam the state. We simply wanted to spend the second half of our lives with some land around us, something that is prohibitively expensive pretty much anywhere desirable in Cali. You would be moving from a state with, I believe it was earlier stated, 8 million people to one with at least 35 million....that point is self explanatory. I think you will see many of the positives of someplace new that many that have lived in the area for quite some time may overlook. I know for us a complete change of scenery made a world of difference so whatever you wind up doing the best of luck to ya!

California stop is when you roll up to the stop sign, slow down but do not even come close to stopping. I didn't mean to put the sign at the end of my comment, was in a rushYou just roll around the corner or through the sign. I can't believe you have never heard of that!

I agree with you about taxes, and the rest except for bad schools. NJ has some of the best public schools (and private as well).
