Does anyone have some inside information on Montclair, NJ? We're moving to North Jersey from South Jersey, looking to rent a nice apartment. We're both in our twenties and would like a nice area with a lot of things to do. Montclair keeps popping up as I look at apartments, so I'm wondering if someone can tell me what it's like.

Thanks!

Nice downtown area with lots of restaurants and a few bars. Definitely a good place to live if you are in your 20's.

Montclair has a lot of great & different restaurants (ethiopian, greek, french, thai, indian, italian, sushi, cuban etc), concert hall, 3 town pools, bars, lounge/clubs (jazz, dance, live bands) Brookdale park 2 miles away, Eagle Rock hiking lookout west orange, Mills reservation, Presby memorial iris gardens valley rd, Kips castle park verona , close to highways, train to NYC, Montclair college, 3 little town centers, shopping, 2 movie theaters, 2-4 miles to Willowbrook mall etc. One of the most walkable towns around.
Check Get Your Walk Score - A Walkability Score For Any Address and it will show you were everything is.
Great place to live, plenty to do, beautiful old homes and pretty streets.
Theres upper montclair which is a little pricier, lower montclair is a little more affordable for some people....both are nice areas....each have a little different atmoshphere and personality.
There is the Church st area, Valley Rd & Bellevue Ave area, Watchung Ave & Park St area, Walnut St area among a few others...come on down one weekend and check out the neighborhoods.

Nice town. great place to move to if you are relocating and looking to make some friends in a new area. Lots of restaurants/bars/venues. Very nice town. love it.

only problem is the high schools (and they arent even that bad). Great place for a couple in your 20s. I am similar age as you, went to college in montclair, and I still enjoy going out for dinner and drinks in montclair.

Montclair is very large, some parts of Montclair are better than other parts. I would personally try to get an apartment west of Park st. but that is my opinion, it would also cost more.
