Hi all,
My family is considering moving to Chatham or Madison, but we both need to commute to NYC (one downtown and one mid-town). I know there are waiting lists for parking in both communities, so I'm wondering if anyone parks on the streets and walks? I've heard of people doing this in other communities, so I wanted to check. Thanks for any info! Emily |

Not sure about Chatham, but I'm sure a good part of Madison near the train has 2 hour restrictions.

I bet Chatham is the same way - there doesn't seem to be much parking available nearby anyhow! Thanks for your input.

There's a parking deck at Summit that might be worth looking into. There's probably a waiting list there as well, but there's much more supply there than at most stations on that line, so perhaps it's a shorter list?

There is train parking at the Madison Station. You can apply for a permit there as well. If you are lucky you can live somewhere within walking distance to the train station. I used to live just 5 minutes (walking) to the station. Oh, how I miss Madison.

From what I understand, lots of Chatham/Madison residents drive to Summit and park on side streets. Also there's the Short Hills train station that isn't that far away. I used to see lots of people walking to side streets there.

the next station up (further back from NY) is convent . there may be permits available there..it's not that far from Madison, may be closer than Summit.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I would LOVE to be within walking distance to a train, which is what we are trying for. I will check into Summit and Convent station. I appreciate your help!
