Okay I'm sorry if there's a thread about this already (I searched and didn't see one) but I'm thinking about going to the parade this year.

Mapping it - it looks like it's only about an hour away from my zip code 08873 so I'm thinking if I leave around 5 am I should be there by 7 and be able to get a decent seat. My coworkers are saying people camp out there the night before and I'd have to be there at 5am if I wanted to see the actual parade...is that true?

Have any of you actually gone?

Thanks

Yeah, they are right. Forget leaving at 5am.... you need to BE there waaaaay earlier than 5am to secure a 1/2 decent stop.

Don't get me wrong, I guess it's a fun thing to do mayne once a life time since we are so close an all.... but I think the whole expereince is a little over-rated. The balloons look way cooler on TV, rather than from the underside. And getting out of there is a nightmare.

Agreed, with the Macy's Day Thanksgiving Parade for me its always been tradition to see on TV. You definitely need to camp out. That Wed. night before Thanksgiving is a big party night too so you could expect to see people hanging out and sleeping there from Wed night!

You are thinking Thanksgiving Day, right?
+1 and it's freezing and windy, if it's not rainy. You don't really get a seat. More like a "cram".
When your young or have young it's fun otherwise, just a hassle.

Wow planning early huh? Yeah I would be there by 5 at least, silly question but I always wondered after standing there for hours where do you go to the bathroom? I would imagine all the eating places are full of people.......I would rather watch it on tv under a warm blanket!! That way you can flip the channels on the boring parts

LOL your comments basically echo all of my coworkers. I guess I'm still in the tourist phase.

Nope don't like crowds, public porta potties, and sitting out in the snow, cold, rain or both just to see some floats, large cartoon ballons, h.s. bands and uber celebs lip synching.

Rather be in my warm home cooking my dinner, watching some of the parade on television, using my own bathroom and able to change the channel when it (the parade) gets boring!

I was thinking it would just be cool to "be there" but the more I hear about it the more I think it's probably a bad idea. My son would probably be cranky the whole time anyway
