Help! Homeowners insurance policy cancelled
We just got a notice from the insurer that our policy will be cancelled in 6 weeks due to non-removal of debris in back yard.
This was construction debris from our renovations. We moved in in December; renovations continued for weeks. Debris was removed in January. I informed our agent and sent them a video as proof. In February I learned that our agent left the agency and a new one called me about the problem. I resent the video to her. I followed up with her in March to see what happened. She didn't answer and I forgot about it.
What do I do now? How serious is this? The notice talks about our right to include our own statement in our file so anyone else will see it - as if no other insurer will want to touch us!?

Can you call her again? Send more photos? Is the company local and able to send someone to inspect property?

If they don't respond properly, you can always take your business elsewhere too. It's not like they are the only insurance company doing business. You may even get a better price while you're at it. Be sure to remind them that if appropriate.

Shop around for another one or go with a local agent just in case there receive the same info about the debris, that way they can just come over and check it out.

Thanks for the tips. I panicked because I remember our agent saying that she could only find one insurer who would cover our place, but that doesn't really make sense. There are lots of homes like ours in the area. I'll ask around.
