Default Hazing in NJ High Schools

I read about the hazing incident among girls in Millburn High School.
Is such behaviour specific to this school district or is it commonplace in different NJ high schools ? Do share your experience..

I have been an adolescent counselor in Denville, NJ for the last 5 years.
It's more common that you would think, across the board, especially amongst the sports teams & other organized clubs.
Kids have such a strong desire for commrodary (I know I spelled that wrong...) and a sense of belonging.... they will do the most outrageous things to feel like "part of the gang", and the things they are asked to do as a "rite of passage" seem to get more & more extreme every year.

In my opinion, hazing is school specific (I wouldn't even say it is district specific). But, I could just be way out of touch (I graduated high school in the 90s).

This "s1ut list" hazing at Millburn High is news to me. NY Times says it has been going on for a decade. The most disturbing thing about this list is that freshman girls are "obsessed" that they are on it and "upset" if they don't make the list. That's your REAL problem.

We never had anything like that in Livingston. Oh, we had the usual jocks picking on dweebs and cheerleaders being snotty to the nerds type of stuff, but no organized hazing where seniors are blowing whistles in underclassman's faces and shoving them into lockers. Actually, at Livingston High, I don't ever recall seniors even going near the freshman. The general consenus was that it was a waste of time and really pathetic.

I've never heard of anything like that.

I found it interesting that it was happening in Millburn.

More money, more problems sometimes.
