Hoboken, Newport or Englewood??????
I have been searching from apts for a little over a month. I am looking for either a 2bd/2bath, 2bd/1bath or a 1bd/1bath with a den/study. My limit is $2700, including 1 or 2 parking spaces.
I've searched this forum, rent.com, craigslist, thevoice, nytimes and every other place on the internet. I'm having trouble narrowing down where I should look. I do not need to be in the midst of all of the action.
I think I have narrowed my search down to Hoboken (I'll be working in Jersey City, so it would nice to be close), Newport (same reason as prior) and Englewood (it seems like I can get more for my money).
Any thoughts or suggest of specific places to look, NOT to look, other areas to check out?
I'm not local so I can't really drive through neighborhoods or check out places.

In Hoboken and Jersey City, you will not need a car ... maybe sell it and not have to worry about parking spaces?
Hoboken and Jersey City = urban. Englewood = suburban. Hoboken and Jersey City are similar lifestyles, the only difference is that Hoboken has more of a nightlife scene (although it's young ... like 21-25).

Also look into rent regulation. Hoboken has it on their older buildings, but they won't come out and SAY it to you when you are looking. You would have to go get it checked at City Hall (nice little loophole, eh? No enforcement BEFORE someone rents, you play lotto and hope your place is under rent control and get a cheaper rent....anyway).
Hoboken has a bit more to walk to than most areas of JC, although some of teh places in teh Historic District of JC are very nice. You will need to come down and look around first. Sometimes it isn't the stats that get people to live somewhere, but how it feels to them.

It really depends on what your lifestyle is, but i would pick newport.
1) newport: very modern and convenient. You have the shopping mall, target, supermarket, bjs, etc..all next door, area is great with nice waterfront walkways and many rests. Transportation both lightrail + path steps away.
2) hoboken: more charming traditional style area, with many small rests and bars where people sit outside to eat, and brownstone houses lining up the street. Depends on where in hoboken, transportation could be a problem.
3) englewood: i dont know this area that well but i think it's just a pretty standard suburb with houses lining up the street, very quiet...
Also checkout paulus hook, basically start from newport then just walk south follow the hudson river waterfront pier until you are at exchange place path station. The area along that path is all good.

Is Englewood the town on route 4 where they built the projects on the other side?
The town is nice, but has a bad rep from the projects if that is the case. One of my great uncles was mugged in broad daylight walking home one day, and broken into as well, but that was a good 30 years ago (if it was a day).
Things may have stabilized a bit since then.....

I was referring to the nightlife scene in Hoboken. Really don't find many people at the bars over 25.

I don't think this is the case across the board, there are plenty of bars in Hoboken with an older clientle. You just have to know where to go, obviously the places with $1 beers are going to be over run by frat boys but there are many other bars with 26-40 crowd as PP mentioned.

Thanks for all of the responses.
So I'm leaning toward Newport. I have seen a few places in Newport online (I have yet to be able to make a trip up there). Anyone know anything about any of the apt/condo buildings?
