I'm late to this convo, but it's appalling that so many of you don't understand what "facetious" means. Unless you guys are all geniuses and your responses to this are facetious.

IT WAS A JOKE. It's a lead-in to an appearance on the Tonight Show. It's too bad the mayor and Conan were banking on people actually being savvy enough to realize it's a joke (the guy breaking into violence with two people randomly appearing to hold him back is incredible, yes--it's incredible because it's not real). As for the professional production money wasted on an Internet video--please. This is obviously a non-professional shoot with both the sound and the video. The video is grainy and low-res, the sound hasn't even been mastered properly (it has the trademark student film hum). What's more, do any of you actually believe that he actually personally manages his twitter and other web shenanigans?

Cory Booker seems to be vastly overestimating the intelligence of the general population.

This wouldn't have worked for Nero or Bush but Booker gets accolades for his comedy act while the city burns.

Enjoy!
You mean he can't do anything about the crime except for the drastic reduction that's been made since he's taken office? How does crime going down ("murders 36%, shooting incidents 41%, rapes 30%, and auto thefts 26%") from 2006 to 2008 not jive well? Cities in general are doing better, but Newark has made a more dramatic turn than any city in the states. What's more, it's continued to go down in the recession.

He was offered a White House job in a prominent position under Obama's administration--he turned it down due to a commitment to Newark. He's cut his own salary twice already and hasn't allowed any of his senior staff raises. He killed the sweetheart deals that Sharpe James made, created a new and targeted narcotics unit, and increased the amount of affordable housing all while slashing the budget and keeping his promise to do no further tax increases.

These are all well-documented as his official policy is to have as high a degree of transparency as possible so third-parties and the populace can see what his administration is doing. What evidence do you have of this comedy act he's pulling?

Default I want Booker to be successful !

"What evidence do you have of this comedy act he's pulling?"

He was engaged in a well publicized comedy act with Conan O'brien while Newark was being shot up and bodies were littering the streets.

If you are implying I am summarizing CB's tenure as a comedy act, reading comprehension is not your forte.

My post pointed out that CB's comportment at a time of crisis was grossly inappropriate.

"August 2007

The execution-style murder of three college students in a Newark schoolyard this weekend has caught the attention of bloggers here in New Jersey and around the nation."
"Oct 2008
This is not Newark,” Mayor Cory A. Booker said in response to the shootings on Friday, according to the Associated Press. “We are a city of peace and a city of strength.”
Shooting Spree Kills Two and Wounds Four in Newark "

"(October 25, 2008)
NEWARK -- In the second outburst of fatal gunfire in just a few hours, two people were shot to death and another person was wounded on South 12th Street in Newark, authorities said."
"July 20, 2009
NEWARK, N.J. - Three shootings in Newark on Monday have left three people dead and seven wounded in the latest outburst of violence in northern New Jersey.
The three shootings happened in a six-hour span, in a six-mile radius, and just days after eight police officers were injured in a confrontation a short distance away in Jersey City. "
"13 Oct 2009
The Cory Booker-Conan O'Brien verbal tussle is heading for a face-to-face confrontation. The Tonight Show host has invited the mayor of Newark onto the show to resolve their beef once and for all.
Mayor Booker will appear on Friday's episode, according to reports."

Differentiating between effectiveness and the random frequency of the murder rate has yet to be determined.
"December 31, 2008 Newark murders decline as police focus on drug-related shootings

Eighty-three people were murdered in Newark in 2007, compared with 52 so far this year."

"Jul 22, 2009 The slayings Monday brought Newark's total homicides for the year to 41, ahead of 32 killings at the same time last year, Newark police said. There have also been 143 shooting incidents this year while there were 147 last year."

He showed good sense turning down Obama's offer unlike some other formerly famous NJ luminary.

Hope he is successful in reigning in Newark crime.
