Considering that much of the lower pricing is on the store brand as well, there is no way Walmart will match a lower price on a ShopRite brand, going by that policy.

Add to this all that the meat and produce are crap in a Walmart, what good is it? So I can get name-brand Doritos at the Shoprite sale price by going to Walmart's customer service desk and having them match the price? Hardly seems worth a trip to a place with an ocean of asphalt for a parking lot, throngs of people looking for "cheap", and slow, slow, slow check-out lines (of course, when they're new, check-out is quick, but give it a few months, or a year, and Walmart will reduce their cashiers to ensure a certain amount of waiting time since it cuts the cost of having too many cashiers, a favorite tactic of warehouse stores).

Sorry, the "price matching" does not impress me. A store that needs a "price match" guarantee is telling me that their prices aren't always the lowest, or else they wouldn't need such a guarantee. And then I still have to go ot ShopRite for meat anyway?? Why waste my time with stupid Walmart?

Walmart is crap.
Actually, there is a way the cashiers at Wal-Mart automate the process whereby there is no necessary visit to the customer service aisle. That would be pure hell. I don't know how their store achieves this, but when the mid-week circulars are issued by the other stores, somehow Wal-Mart has adjusted their prices accordingly on the advertised items by the following Thursday. Some of the cashiers already have the competitors circulars underneath their register. The good cashiers pretty much have the lists memorized by Thursday AM.

Now, if it sounds like I am defending Wal-Mart, believe me, I am not. I am more on board with BCJ, in this case. I am not one of these people that worships buying cheap crap made in Canton by a vertically integrated distribution chain linked directly to Wal-Mart. I don't wear those rose colored glasses. I much prefer shopping at other stores. The problem is that I can't always afford to splurge. But that's more my doing, since I chose to have kids!

this is a lot of bs just because you hate walmart. if you dont like walmarts meat, buy it somewhere else. they sell a lot of stuff other than meat.

im not sure why you mention that they have an ocean of asphalt for a parking lot. some kind of weird shot at them that means nothing.

in the times ive been there, and this walmart has been around for some time, i havent had major waiting issues. id say target has been faster but nothing terrible.

cute how you turned the pricematch guarantee into a bad thing. maybe its because they cant always be aware of everyone elses prices and maybe sometimes someone goes lower on an item.

how do you compare the prices of shoprite, a&p, pathmark to walmarts prices? i assume you dont bother walking into walmart.
Before there were any Walmarts in NJ, let alone supercenters, I was traveling the nation for work. I first thought Walmarts were very impressive. A friend of mine lived in Melbourne, FL, and I was impressed with the one near him. He and his wife shopped there all the time and swore by it.

As I traveled for work, I would use Walmarts. When I was working in Tampa a lot, they built a new one on Dale Mabry (I believe). When they opened, I made full use of them for anything I needed. At first they were dirt cheap. When I went back months later, I found prices had gone up, considerably. I realized what they did - they dumped merchandise, they locked up business, then raised prices to recoup their losses from the dumping. That's predatory pricing.

As time went on I continued to go to Walmart's throughout the nation whenever I needed something. Many times I would wander around a Walmart not buying anything, just to check them out, and I would look at their pricing. (When you're on the road for work, evenings get boring, and you can wind up doing a LOT of "window shopping".) After a while, I noticed that their prices were often higher for comparable or identical items I could get back home in a Kmart or Shoprite or any other store.

When I learned that their predatory business practices were extensive and that their employment practices were less than fair, I decided there was no redeeming value to these places and I more or less cut them off in terms of my business. I still keep an eye on their circulars, I still wander into a Walmart every so often and check it out, so I know what their pricing is like.

Furthermore, I've worked with them as my client, so I got to know their corporate culture a little bit. They are an impressive company in many ways, but they have values I don't share, as well. Most impressive is their distribution system. If not for their other foibles, I'd consider them the most impressive retailer in the world, but even with their amazing distribution system they seek a cost-cutting edge in areas that are, in my opinion, unethical.

You, by the way, are their dream customer. As a new customer you were blown away by their low prices, used that experience as a basis for your presumption that they had the best prices, and to this day you simply presume that they have the best prices without bothering to comparison shop. They love you. They want everyone to have that experience, to be convinced that they are the "cheapest" and then never again question that or bother to comparison shop to verify that they still are the cheapest. This way they an recoup their earlier losses on you and make more money on you in the long run by subtly raising prices on you.

I see them as morally bankrupt in that they put the dollar at the center of their business. I see them as being unethical in that they seem to make decisions where if the cheapest route is to do something mildly unethical, it's worth it to them to try it and even to pay any fines or legal settlements if the overall bottom line is financially favorable.

But from strictly a consumer's viewpoint, they suck anyway.

- Anything they have I can usually get for the same or lower price and often a better quality someplace else.
- When it comes to food, I can do better with supermarket sales as far as price goes
- Food quality is far superior in supermarkets and other food sources, such as specialty and ethnic stores. All my shopping is ShopRite, Corrado's, DePiero's, Trader Joe's, Nouri's, and occasionally A&P or Pathmark (they're the same company, anyway). I know which ones have the better prices on whichever items I need, and I have far better selection and quality from these stores than I ever would find at Walmart.
- The experience at Walmart sucks. It is all about "Cheap". Everything is cheap looking, cheaply made, cheaply done. Their workers look cheap, their store looks cheap. The customers look cheap. It is often crowded, it is often filled with loud and rowdy people and children. The check-out lines are long on any store over a year old. You have to park half-a-mile away.

On top of all that they have their ethics and moral issues - who needs' em? Not me.

All I'll say is that I'm not at all surprised that you love Walmart so much. You certainly fit the description of their typical customer; I easily could have guessed that you and your wife are devout Walmart customers. Far be it from me to tell you to shop elsewhere, though. I think that for you Walmart is a great place. Keep on shopping there - enjoy!

Here is something to make you feel at home -

I guess we will see.
The Neptune store will be a Supercenter. The conversion is ongoing at this time will open sometime next year. When they finish that store, then they will convert the Freehold store to a Supercenter

Target has exactly the same stuff. Your kidding yourself if you think target is any different than the Walmart.

I'd say BergenCountyJohnney must be a union organizer pis*ede that he can't get a foothold in their stores. Like making the employees pay union dues will really improve the place.

Walmart sucks. Have you seen the movie "The high cost of low prices" very interesting. The whole thing is on google here I think http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...dJX3FBrqWCPyQQ

Target is not much better IMO.

But you know if they put one just about anywhere (either store), masses of people would go there. People love that crap. All that matters is the bottom line.

its funny how people pretend that target is better than walmart in some way. i guess its just so they look even handed. "Target is okay, but I hate Walmart!"

who knows what BCJ's motivation is (i decided to stop reading his responses in this thread and havent read the last couple to me) but the guy gets way too emotional about things so you cant take him too seriously.

Target seems expensive to me, I get much better prices shopping the sales in ShopRite and Pathmark. The people in Target are awful. I feel like I'm marching to my death any time I walk in to one. In Jersey I've only been to the Walmart in Edison and I wasn't a fan of that either. There's a Super Walmart in PA that I like and I'd rather go there than Target any day.

They are opening a Super Walmart in Garfield on Passaic Street.... Construction is already underway, ground has been leveled and the parking lots are in place. They are also widening Passaic St. to accomodate the traffic.

RUMOR has it that they will close the regular Walmart in Saddle Brook on 46, but no confirmation on that. Included in the walmart complex will be Applebees, Petsmart, and it was supposed to be Home Depot but now they are saying it might be a Lowes. Details can be found online via Vornado Realty group, they are in charge of the project.
