Default Moving back to central Jersey...which town?

I was born and raised in East Brunswick, NJ. Moved out of NJ about 4 years ago and now probably moving back. My husband is close to getting a job in Newark, NJ. We would love to move to Union County for its proximty to Newark, but we can't afford it so that leaves Middlesex County for us. My husband's position will be right off of the Turnpike I believe so preferrably I'd like something close to the Turnpike. Right now, I am interested in Sayreville, East Brunswick, Old Bridge, Monroe, or Milltown. Which has decent priced houses? Which has lower taxes? Which has the best school systems (I have 3 young kids -- 1 of which is special needs)? Which town do you like best and why?

And if anyone has any other suggestions on a town, I'd love to hear it. Good schools, safety, decent commute to Newark, decent priced houses and taxes!

Thanks so much!

Out of those towns, I would pick East Brunswick if it was me. As far as decent priced houses and taxes, that's always a tough one in NJ and you'll be paying anywhere you go, but I think the school system in EB would be worth it especially with three kids, one with special needs.

Try some in Somerset County. Good schools and not a bad commute. I worked in Newark for years and it took me 35-45 minutes. Not bad at all.

Can you tell me which towns in Somerset County would fit our needs? Good school district, low (for Jersey) taxes, ok house prices, etc.

I'd look at Woodbridge- it's a good mix of affordability, reasonable (by NJ standards) taxes, decent schools, and accessibility to the Turnpike (and three train stations if he wants to get to Newark by train). You're not going to find a town in NJ that has low prices, low taxes, decent commute and good schools- you're going to have to find a balance between those factors.

If you can't afford East Brunswick, I would go with Monroe, Jamesburg, Spotswood, or Milltown.

Monroe and Jamesburg have good schools (Jamesburg kids go to Monroe) and Milltown's kids are bused to Spotswood, I believe.
