A lot would have you think JC is like places in the Middle East. I will chose urban life or surburia anyday.
If you can raise kids in NYC, which I did and all three are of mine went to public schools, two in college and one a recent college grad. You can in JC and any other city in the US be it urban or surburia.
It's all about being "INVOLVED" regardless.

Meh. I've lived in Jersey City. And New York City. Still wouldn't chose to raise my kids in Jersey City. I can do better for my kids.

OK that's YOUR choice. What I'm saying if others are doing it and are successful at it why knock it.
I can't stand when those that live in surburbia feel that's the only place a child can get a proper life or education.
Hell, not all surbubia is green pastures, as some would want you to think.
It gets tiring to always here that certain cities such as Jersey City is soooooooo dangerous and BEWARE you move there you will never make it out.

Well, what part of JC terrifies you? JC is a big city, at least 10x the size of Nutley, so there are many areas good and bad (just like in NYC, Philly, Baltimore, Chicago, etc etc). Anybody would be scared driving through the Greenville section. Maybe even Bergen-Lafayette, at night. But the rest of the districts are pretty tame, and some, such as Downtown, are downright gorgeous and very safe.

Couldn't give a rat's ass where you raise your kids. However I do find selecting Jersey City as one of the best places to raise a kid in the whole of the USA misleading to say the least.

Right, JC might not be as "ideal" as SmallTown USA, but -- once again, I will repeat myself - this list is comparing CITIES. So, which other city would you suggest that is much better for raising kids than Jersey City? Philly? Cleveland? Detroit???
Wow, some of you people just cannot understand the basic premise of the list.

I have been all over this country and this list is absurd!!!!
These towns aren't even in the top 100 in New Jersey let alone the whole USA.

JC is one thing, but having Newark AND JC on there totally invalidates the list. Especially when areas that are much nicer and have a much lower cost of living (Phoenix) is ranked towards the bottom of the list.
There are some well-placed cities on that list, but the fact that JC and Newark are on the list - and are TOP 30!! - is madness.

LOL - please read my post, which is right above yours ^^
Oh my God, so many people are just dense. This list is not entitled "Best Municipalities in the USA to Raise a Family" ... it's entitled "Best CITIES in the USA to Raise a Family".
Seriously? Are so many people this dumb that they cannot understand this?

I see where you are coming from, since Newark has high crime rates for NJ, which as a whole is a very SAFE state. But you have to realize that there are so many cities in the US that make Newark, NJ look like the Romper Room. Newark really isn't that bad, when compared to other cities crime index per capita.
