the closest would be orchard beach in the bronx, which is about 20 miles east of garden state plaza in paramus:

in the state of nj, the closest beaches would be in the keansburg/sandy hook area along raritan bay.

I think it would be easier to put in a pool and get some sand dumped in your backyard.

Paramus isn't easily commute-able to beach areas.

Paramus to Sandy Hook is about 1.5 hours; to Keansburg about 1 hour. Paramus to any of the beaches in NY during the summer, about 4-5 days.

When is this planned trip?

We have been going to Bradley Beach, very clean, about 1hr from Paramus, IF you leave early. Don't bother leaving after 8:30AM, the GSP will be one big parking lot.

Seven Presidents in Long Branch is nice.

They are rebuilding the bridge at Sandy Hook still I think so that's a nightmare.

Traffic is a nightmare any way you want to cut it on the weekends trying to get down the shore from
Paramus..I would join a pool club if available and go to the shore during the week and stay over if you
can...It took me almost 2 l/2 hours (yes thats 2 l/2 hours) this past summer trying to get to Red Bank
from West Orange on a Saturday for a birthday party....It's worse than ever.

The reports of the bad traffic to the shore have been greatly exaggerated. There are times you can go that minimize how much traffic you'll encounter. There are times I've driven from Bergen County to the shore without hitting traffic jams and only moderately heavy traffic flow on a Saturday morning; it can be inexplicably fast-moving, sometimes.

If you are going to the shore north of Seaside Heights and allow yourself 2.5 hours that's more than enough time, including traffic you may get stuck in. More likely it will be under 2 hours, even 1.5 hours if you leave before 8:30.

I don't know why people over-dramatize the beach traffic situation. Those who live in other states will often drive more than 2 hours with NO traffic to get to a beach.

Also everybody up North seem to think there is only ONE road to get to the NJ Shore. You have some choices there. As far as beaches, I've never tried Keansburg since that's kind of in the bay. Thinking that SandyHook is officially the closest beach on the Atlantic Ocean. That's a popular National Park so it gets filled when the weather is decent, but then just about 15 minutes down is Seven Presidents and others even closer, then the other usuals as you drive down the coastline.

With traffic on the Turnpike and Garden State, I would use the following directions:

1. Drive to Newark Airport
2. Jet Blue to Palm Beach International
3. Drive east until you can't go further....

Non Stop, 4 hours including drive-time.
