I hate walmart!! I hate it! Like I posted one time before the Riverdale Walmart is a real experience. I went once, never again. I have never seen so many Jazzies in my life. We are not talking old, we talking 30 years old in jazzies. Its sad, I wont be so judgemental this time. However I really will never never never go to walmart.
I agree!
I actually have a best friend who loves Walmart. I figured out why, its quanity over quality.

My guess is that a Jazzie is either the little scooter that Walmart has several of on hand to lend to their obese customers so they don't have to walk through the store, or it is short for Jackson Whites. But I'm pretty sure it's the former...

Ugh, Walmart is a disgrace. The crowds there are the WORST. No matter the location, it is loaded with the trashiest of people. I feel trashy just being in there. Middle aged men wearing sweatpants, teens dressed like ghetto gangsters, and immigrant familes with 13 screaming kids. I'm getting stressed out just thinking about it.
I haven't been to a Walmart in years. It's the lowest of the low in terms of shopping experiences. Not to mention that everything in the store is garbage.

You guys are soooo spot on. WalMart does seem to attract the less than desireable riff-raff of humanity.
Look at the bright side, BCJ, those people probably can't afford to move into your Bergen County enclave, or worse, their kids associating with your kids.
I'll admit I shop there for my car maintenance/car care items (so blue collarish, I know. Thank God for intenet anonymity).
I just know not to be friendly or make eye contact with the other shoppers. It's all about being streetwise.

walmart gets a lot of abuse because of its size. there are many other places none of us want to step foot in. there are a bunch of malls i wont go to because i dont like the crowd. its fine to complain and ridicule. its the notion that they shouldnt exist that bothers me. if people freely choose to spend their money there, they should exist.

BCJ, I agree with you on most of what you said, except that last post there on Shop Rite. Every SR I have been to has scooters available, and so does teh Target and other stores near me. The red ones with the front baskets.
Aside from that, pretty much on. But I think the whole K-Mart thing may have more to do with the area than with the store itself.
The Shop Rite up in JC by BJ's over by Newport is so-so. Worse selection than others, but slightly more ethnic, and always crowded. The one in JC up by the mall on 495 was terrible. Not a bad crowd, but just dingy/run down feeling. And Dirty too! This probably had more to do with who shopped there, and, sadly, the same people that worked there....
I hate Wal Mart, but I think it has two things going for it. As mentioned before, the "all under one roof". Although I would not shop there unless I had to, I can see needing a half gallon of milk for whatever while passing by for motor oil. that is like stopping at the convenience store on the way home. Saves some time. Yes you can get it in 2 days when you do your weekly shopping, but cereal tastes crappy with water! . Personally, I hate megastores. It makes finding individual things hard. The large shop rite in Oakland is big enough to have things liek Lawn Chairs and Microwaves. Sorry, I really do not need that. I would RATHER have a genuine Asian section that offers more than La Choi and a Mexican section that gives more than Ortega!!! (Otherwise the store IS great, and clean... but still).
But the second thing is simple. COmmercials. TONS of commercials showing happy smiling families all ready to watch the big game or have their birthday parties. Women on screen telling you how you can save $10,000 a year if you just have breakfast at home instead of McD's. All the usual, uncheckable schmutz that advertising is good for.
Just listening to that friendly voice makes me want to hit something!!!
But it works, and MANY people will vow for it, regardless of any actual merrit.
Do yourself a favor and look at the ad company that does those ads. I think they could sell dog poo to a car salesman and call it an accessory.

You're probably right... Although I think that the people who love Walmart aren't so much poor as they are ignorant and, as tommyc so correctly put it, "trashy". I'm sure there are people in my Bergen County enclave who shop at Walmart; actually, I know it for a fact. And it is always the trashiest people who do so.
Trashiness and ignorance don't always go hand-in-hand with being poor or cheap. I think there are plenty of Walmart shoppers who just blindly go there imagining, "I'm gettin' a DEAL!!!!", regardless of whether they can afford to spend more or not. It's more about people who are trashy enjoying that trashy, dirty environment than it is about what people can actually afford or not afford.
I know for a fact also that there are people who are poor and carefully shop around and never go to Walmart...
So, there are trashy people in Bergen County, even in my enclave, I'm sure...
After all, the "Real Housewives of NJ" are trashy as hell and they live in Franklin Lakes in Bergen County.

CNJ, I don't know what tree you are barking up, but we are all standing over here!
Nobody is saying "Ban Wal-Mart", they are simply saying it sucks and that they lie to their consumers.
They are HOPING it goes under, but not asking for legislation to do so. I hope people start to realize that they are NOT saving money, and that the money they spend there leaves the country, for the most part. Ignorance can be a powerful tool if weilded correctly.
