El Dakar, I think we're all (or many of us) are frustrated with you because a woman asked a legitimate question and you basically called her a racist. And now you're talking about a curry smell, which some people just dislike, just as one can dislike any other smell, as a metaphor for good and evil. Why are you reading so much into this? Why can't someone just live somewhere they think they'll feel accepted? Why are you so against that?

As a corollary, why does she have to live somewhere ethnically diverse if she doesn't want to? The people who live in "Little India" live somewhere just as ethnically diverse as the people in Spring Lake do.

Objectively speaking, curry has a strong smell, and depending on the construction of the building, can be a problem. If you're in a single family house, then your neighbor's cooking smells are not going to be a problem. Same for a townhouse most likely. However, in an apartment or condo, where you are stacked on top of each other, it absolutely can be an issue, depending on the construction.

I don't have any issues with Indians at all, any. I think they are very good people. They are very education-oriented and family-oriented, which I admire. They are polite and they are good neighbors overall. I happen to love Indian food as well, so it's not that I find the smell of curry offensive! But I wouldn't want it wafting up into my apartment.

On the Last Link, some are in South River, also a good safe area. It's next to East Brunswick.

Aside from all the critism about your description...I take it that you want to find a safe area with decent neighbors, low crime, good food and good fun...

Here are a few areas that might be of interest...there's plenty to do if you don't mind a little driving / traffic. restaurants, malls, movies, etc and near major highways.

(Central NJ) Woodbridge - You'll probably like this area - you can jump on the Parkway to get to work - near everything - Nice and Clean ShopRite too - You'll feel comfortable there

(Northern NJ) Hoboken - Young professionals, near NYC - long commute

Someone mentioned South Brunswick area - which I happen to love...This and smaller towns like Franklin Park going into Kendall Park, along with Kendall park and further south down Rte.27 into Princeton would be ideal if you don't mind the traffic in the morning...it's a headche, but a wonderful surrounding area, is a mixed commmunity quiet neighborhoods, people are friendly, safe and most of the restaurants are good...plenty to do but you must drive to get there.

In my opinion you can get the best quality apartment / condo in these areas within the price range your looking for.

BTW - There's other parts to Edison that are ok...Metuchen is perfect if you don't want the long commute and want to stay in Middlesex County.

Beware! DO NOT I repeat do not go into these areas...it's not safe! Newark, Trenton, Camden -

The apartment guide books are somewhat helpful ~

Hope this helps!
