New Jersey court rules citizens have no rights to own handguns
N.J. Court Says Americans Have No Right To Buy Handguns - Taking Liberties - CBS News
I think it is ridiculous to have the police chief have to approve you to buy a handgun. It is none of their business. I don't want the police to know anytime I buy a handgun...
and they do not do it in a timely manner either. takes months and months just to buy a single handgun...
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Not sure how the gun laws in NJ are constitutional. Seems plain as day that the rights of people to purchase guns are being infringed upon...

Yeah the judges use all this fancy language which is nothing but a clever way to keep people armless. I refuse to even ask permission from my town. I don't want anyone knowing what I have or don't have or want or don't want. Don't use your name and be careful with numbers.

so let me get this straight, you don't want any authorities to know or approve a purchase of a handgun for anyone? So if you were in charge you would allow persons with criminal histories and mental disabilities to purchase handguns? Sounds like it would be a great idea!
BTW it doesn't take "months and months" to purchase a gun. State statutes mandate that a New
Jersey applicant be processed (granted or denied) in 30 days. You should also apply for a couple of hand gun permits When applying for your FID. People that are serious to own will wait.
In any case ammo is so expensive that you will think twice about plinking. Just about doubled in price from 5years ago.

Felony conviction or history of mental illness would exclude you from buying a gun just like it does in the rest of the USA.... I dont even have a problem with a 3 day wait period if they wanted to put that into effect rather then the current system.
And it takes well over a month to get your application back. It doesnt matter what the laws say, I am speaking from experience. And I think it is ridiculous that you have to provide 2 "personal references" that they can contact.

Most of the rest of us, the reasonable people agree. In many states outside NJ you can just go to the corner hardware store and buy guns and ammo just like anything else. As the T shirt reads, "Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms: Should be a convenience store, not a Federal agency".

"you don't want any authorities to know or approve a purchase of a handgun"
Excuse me? You fill out paperwork and wait now to legally own a gun. Wait a minute, you mean that NJ is calling the feds a bunch of incompetent fools? I'll have to bring that up with the president when he visits his buddy Corzine.
I don't care if the police know if I legally own a gun; they should know. Ask permission? I'm not a felon! Kiss*My*Grits

I am glad to hear they are so strict at regulating who can own a gun. I now live in a state where practically anyone and everyone can own a gun. I felt much safer in NJ then I do now. If you are a law abiding citizen with no mental health issues I don't understand why this would be a problem.

IMO, the "wildlife" I want to protect myself from are the criminals that may want to harm me or my family.

I don't mind it terribly, but I *do* think that police chiefs should be *personally* fined if they do not obey the 30-day rule. When it takes a few cents out of their pockets, maybe they'll follow the law.
Additionally, New Jersey residents NEED to have a CCW permit option. I don't feel unsafe in my own home - however I would love to be able to legally carry a firearm if I am visiting an area where there is a lot of crime or using public transportation in areas that have a good deal of robberies. THAT is what should be taken to the Supreme Court of the U.S.
