That's way out of the way. Here's what I'd do, since I grew up in Manalapan and just moved to North Brunswick about two months ago and I still visit my parents often enough. I take backroads because there isn't any major highway route there. I live off Livingston Ave so I usually take Cranbury Cross Rd out to Rt. 171 and then merge onto Rt. 130 south, then make the left turn onto Old Georges Rd just before the Adams Lane light, then turn left onto Church Ln by the Old Georges Rd Baptist Church and stay on that road to the end. Then merge right onto Dunhams Corner Rd which becomes Helmetta Blvd after the Cranbury-South River Rd light, then make your second left after the light onto Old Stage Rd, take that to the end and merge left onto Main Street, then you pick up Rt. 18 south (you will only be on 18 for a bit) and follow signs for CR-516 east which is Old Bridge-Matawan Rd, and I think that eventually brings you out to Rt. 35 by the big interchange with the Parkway and Rt. 36 in Keyport if I'm not mistaken but you have to stay on 516 for awhile. Sorry if this sounds complicated, considering how familiar you are with the area. Middletown is quite large also so it also depends where in Middletown you are going, but I know a large chunk of 35 passes through it so chances are you'll be on 35 for some portion regardless of exactly where. Hope that helps.
