Vacation To Jamaica
Hi
My wife and I decided to go to Jamaica for our vacation. We never been there, we are thinking to go to either Montego Bay or negril, stay on one of the resorts overthere.
We have decided to go on the week of thanks giving since that's the only week convenient for us work wise. I am not sure how is the atmospher will be on that week or will it be less crowded since it's the week of thanksgiving? If you have any experience regarding Jamaican vacation could you share it with us ? Thank you.

I have been to Jamaica 6 times on Land Vacations with family, 3 TA Fams to Sandals Resorts, and twice on a cruise. I've stayed in Montego Bay, ocho Rios, and Negril.I have been to Port Antonio, Kingston, and WhiteHouse Jamaica, where Sandals has a resort.
When I stayed in Negril I stayed at a Riu Resort. My problem with them is they turned the Air Conditioning off at Certain Times of the day. It was July and close to 100 degrees, so I found it very uncomfortable. Negril is very basic , not much shopping. Montego Bay is a big city. If you stay there I would stay in the Rose Hill Area. There are many resorts there. Shopping Downtown, just be aware like in a large city. I never had a problem, but I was just careful of where I went. In the Resorts there is no problem at all.
Montego Bay is near the Airport, Negril about an 1 1/2, and if the road is completed, it should be by now 2 hours to Ocho Rios. The resorts or tour packages do provide the transportation. I know Sandals has their own transfers. Ocho Rios has Dunns River Falls, not as big as Montego Bay, but much bigger than Negril. It has many beautiful resorts.

I don't agree. Its Beautiful. Just don't stay in a Dump there.
That is why I specified the Rose Hill Area in Motego Bay. There are all types of hotels there, from Moderate to Complete luxury.
Even Aruba has had its problems. Just be careful as you would in most places.

Stay a nice resort and you will be fine. I went to Jamaica, Montego bay. stayed at the Ritz. it was heavenly. the people are ridiculously nice there. yes it is true that there are many poor parts of the country, but it is not like you are gonna hang out there. We stayed at the resort 90% of the time, except for a few shopping excursions as well as to go play golf and swim with dolphins. you'll like it!

I have been to Jamaica twice and once was on a dental mission where we visited villages all over the island. I love jamaican music and jamaican food but jamaica really is a dump. I would only go again if i got a great deal on an all inclusive resort. Jamaica is very poor and you really should not stray far from a resort. If have so many more choices in carribean islands that would be more beautful than Jamaica. If you scuba dive Jamaica diving is pitiful. Everything under water is basically dead.

Yeah what he said. ^^^^
I guess you would be OK if you only stay in the resort. But why when there are so many better (safer) places to go?

not even close .. Leave your compound in Jamaica and your life is in danger. We have friends who were lucky they were only robbed when they did. Jamaica is insanely poor.. Aruba is not. its like night and day.
