Montclair State to Theatre District/Times Square Commute
I've been accepted to Montclair State for graduate school next year. I've got applications in at other schools in the city, but I'm going to need more information before I can make a decision on where to attend. My question is this:
My husband and I need to live somewhere moderately priced ($1200-1300 for a 1 bedroom apartment) and relatively safe that's situated somewhere between Montclair and the Theatre District/Times Square so that neither of us have 1 hour+ commute times (prefer 30-45 min if it's possible). My husband has an interesting job that keeps him out at all hours, so there also needs to be consistent public transportation, even on the weekends. Is there a city that fits these criteria? I don't currently live in the NYC area and have no idea.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Montclair would work. Your not gonna find consistent public transportation past 1 AM or so unless you live in Hoboken or Jersey City though.

I'd go for Jersey City--you'll be doing a reverse commute to school, and hubby will get the transportation he needs.

Thanks for the suggestions!
Now what about Hoboken? When I search on njtransit.com, it seems like the straightest shot to both Montclair State and to the Theatre District. Are the rents reasonable there and is it pretty safe?
Thanks again!

It's very pricey.
You might be able to get lucky and find something in your price range though. Agreed that it is probably your best place if you can find an apt you can afford

That's why I suggested Jersey City instead of Hoboken. Jersey City also has PATH trains, but they don't run direct from 33rd. (I think) You might find something small in Hoboken in your price range if you get very lucky.
