NJEA Teachers Convention in Atlantic City
Well, two days off from school on the taxpayers' dime so the union can go to Atlantic City for the weekend.
I have an idea for next years....How about holding it in the summer, when you're all off anyway? Or would that interfere with your vacations?
Hugs and kisses.

Of ALL of the teachers I know NONE of them even GO to the convention.
Such a waste of money.
In my most humble opinion, they should only receive their pay for the 2 days if they attend the convention and actually work on bettering their teaching skills..... as opposed to my teacher friends who are having "spa days" and "starting early on Christmas shopping".

Seven people in my immediate or extended family are either teachers or administrators, and I have a friend who is a principal. None of them go either.

Not exactly sure why you blame teachers for this "problem". For one we dont make the rules we just play by them. Not to mention we work a set amount of days. If they got rid of the convention, we would just get out earlier in the summer. Basically you wouldnt be happy regardless what happened. If teachers have it soooo great, why in the world didn't you become one?

I'm not blaming the teachers at all. I'm blaming the NJEA union and more importantly, our state and local governments, who let them get away with this kind of stuff.
These are paid days off so the teachers can (allegedly) go to a convention run by the union.
I don't have a problem with paying for teachers to have a chance to go to continuing ed classes, but I do have a problem with taxpayers subsidizing the NJEA's annual gathering. If they want to have a convention, the NJEA should have it in the summer when the teachers are OFF anyway.
I have the highest respect for individual teachers who are good at their job.
