Hmm... I don't see how Texas, which is "a whole other country" proves your point about NJ or VT or any other state you choose. I'm responding to one comment about one specific state.
Although, I must say I don't recall having seen any Guidos in Montclair when I lived there, in the 1980s.
Whatever. I can assure you that EVERY state has its downside and irritating aspects. No place is a panacea. Nonetheless, happy trails. Hope you can get out of Dodge posthaste.

Okay, things have changed allot since the 80s. It's gotten awhole lot worse, let me tell you. Jersey is not what it used to be in the least...it's like some body got the guidos wet, and they multiplied.

You have something against all of them because obviously there is some of them in you. There is no other explanation.
And you lump yuppies with every other group so you must hate them also. If you had that much education you would be gone many times over. Education means you would have had some sort of options. So if you are actually for real you are in some need of supervision. The special variety.
You constantly mention race but make outlandish arguments that anyone can see are ignorant. You advise people to move to upstate NY as though there is less racism there and you praise people who are "up front" about this. Then you mention you can't find mix race people and scream about the northwest which is the "whitest" part of the U.S.
Your goal is the whitest place on earth and yet you are sick of dealing with racism?

Personally, I disagree with some of this
1. I live in Cumberland County and for me, seeing a Guido is like seeing some kind of rare endangered species that you make fun of and laugh at.
2. I LOVE the beauty of the marshes, the swamps, and the Pine Barrens as well as the Ocean. Sure there's places with better and worse, but what's here is pretty nice. What parts have you been to? I grew up in Vineland and went to grade school in East Vineland where my school was in the middle of a corn field. Me and my friends would frequently romp through the woods when we were board and just explore wooded areas around our houses/farms. Personally, one of my favorite places is East Point Light House. There's plenty of nature and natural beauty in NJ, enough that you can easily get lost, but most of it is located away from the population centers for obvious reasons. Also, there's the ocean. NJ has some of the best beaches in the world, they're clean, they have okay surf, and the sand isn't rocky. The previous statement was made by a friend of mines mother who has traveled the world and in reference to LBI and Cape May County Beaches. Personally, the only beaches I've ever been to are in Cape May County and along the Delaware Bay (not counting lakes and rivers), and I've never understood the whole thing about Jersey Beaches being dirty. In fact, they have some of the highest standards of cleanliness.
3. I live in Cumberland County, and sprawl is reaching here too, but I've seen more small Americana towns in NJ than I can count. Madison, Maplewood, Vineland, Millville, Clayton, Redbank, Denville, Verona, Ocean City, Princeton, Burlington, Florence, Franklinville, Woodbury, Richland, to name a few off the top of my head. Yes, Vineland, Millville, and Bridgeton aren't in the greatest of conditions, but they're on the upswing and still have their mainstreets.
4. Relatively true, some of them (like Newark) are on the upswing, and all will ALWAYS have they're ruff spots. Personally, i think it's becuase people just gave up on those cities (and deffinitly sprinkle a healthy dose of racism) after the 1960's and said that nothing can be done that things aren't getting better. With some determination, and some industry willing to invest in NJ, they can bounce back.
5. For me, it depends on the time of year and where you work. If it's summer, may God have mercy on you if you want to go East on certain roads, and if you commute to Philly, traffic moves (barely). Personally, I think we need more mass transit in the form of bringing back some of our commuter rail lines and interurbans.
6. Crime in Jersey is just as bad as the rest of the country.
7. Oh GOD do I agree with this one. Our Governmeant SUCKS because it's so rife with corruption.
8. The Coast of living where I live is significanlty less than in certain parts of North Jersey. NJ's coast of living is almost entirely due to our rediculously high property taxes that are killing this state.
Overall, NJ has it's pros and it's cons. One needs to weigh them and know the kind of area one wants to live in. It all depends on what one values.

Excellent post. It really comes down to what one's priorities are, where one chooses to live.

In regards to Guidos, just an observation, they, along with Peurto Ricans, are the only two groups that I ever see with their respective 'Italy' and 'Puerto Rico' flag decals on the back of their cars.
I hear people bitching about how foreigners don't integrate into American society, yet the Italian Guido brigade, most likely of third generation Italian descent or more, seem determined to scream about their heritage.
The most laughable moment I can remember is driving through Nutley after Italy won the World Cup a few years back, and seeing throngs of people waving Italian flags and driving around honking. Would they have been celebrating as such had the U.S. won? I think not.

Are those people actually third generation? In that area? I seriously doubt it.
Also- why fixate on one particular yuppie filled community in regard to racial hypocrisy? There are places like that all over the northeast. They don't have to have an ivy league school in them to prove that point. You can be over-educated and still be racist as hell.
And why do you insist on calling towns like Princeton, Camden, Trenton, etc.- cities? Cities usually have over 100,000 people in them.

They probably are. Many of the Italian families in that area moved in anywhere between early and mid 1900's. Still, by 3rd generation, you're pure American. I have no problem with holding onto one's heritage and maintaining tradition, but to wear it on your arm as a badge of pride is a bit much.

No, it's because I am constantly surrounded by them,

Yes, because yuppies suck too. Also, I don't have a degree but I do have some college. It has been rough raising the money to get out of here and education has nothing to do with it. If you haven't noticed, there are plenty of college educated people out of work right now...

I only mention race because it is a problem in Jersey, if a problem that people choose to ignore and remain in denial about. Uspate New York has racism, yes, and there is some racism everywhere. Thing is, over there, at least people tell you right up front how they feel, where in Jersey, they just stab you in the back about it later.

I didn't mention mixed race people but I did mention integration. Jersey is very tribal: blacks here, Asian there, whites over here. The PNW might have a more white population, but at least it's intergrated.

Okay, that is a racist comment against white people. Just because there are allot of white people in an area does not mean that it is a racist area or that the white people who live there are racist. At the same hand, just because an area has allot of black people, it does not mean that it is not a racist area.
Take Vermont, with maybe four black people in it right now (two of whom are just passing through) and Alabama, with a very large black population. Which one do you think has more racism, Vermont or Alabama?

It was way worse in Hoboken, they shut Washington Street down, an imprompt parade of sorts......and that is in a "yuppie" town.
