Depends. If you've been to NYC before, you probably won't be very excited at the prospect of spending 2 or 3 hours wandering around midtown, and going off the beaten path to Newark's Ironbound neighborhood would probably be something different you'd enjoy. But for anyone who hasn't been to NYC before, I think most people would rather spend a 3 hours in Manhattan if just for the experience.

I just looked on njtransit.com and it seems that a one-way train ticket from the airport to NY Penn is $15. This seems weird given it's $10.50 from way out in New Brunwick.

Is NJT really gouging airport customers or is the site making a mistake? It says that it's $7.75 from EWR to Newark Penn; I would have figured that it'd be about the same to go all the way to manhattan.

Oh, the city is fun. Even still. I'd just rather spend more time/unrestricted time wandering around/shopping/etc there. Just seems less fun only being three hours (I've been restricted to 5-6 hours before, and, while still fun, not as fun as spending an entire day there).

NJ Transit does gouge the airport customers (or subsidize the other customers, depending on your point of view). It's more expensive to go from New York / Newark to the airport than to go to stops farther away than the airport!

Presumably, they justify it as paying for the expense of building the new airport station and rail link, but you can bet 25 years from now they will still be charging long after they've recouped the cost of building it, just because they can.

They do the same nonsense with the Secaucus transfer station.
