Default Comments about Lodi, NJ

I am considering renting an apartment on Westervelt Place, in Lodi, NJ. I am researching long distance, and want to narrow my viewing down as much as possible.

Is this a safe place? What about walking in the neighborhood?

How is the commute into NYC from Lodi? Shopping? Any big boxes like Target, Costco or Walmart close by?

I checked out the demographics and crime seems to be fairly low in Lodi compared to other towns. I don't care about "boring." I am old and boring already. I do care about getting into the city easily as my daughter lives in Washington Heights, and I will want to visit her and she will want to visit me. Also, I most likely will be working in the city.

I lived in NJ about ten years ago (Jersey City and then out in Hightstown).

Without sounding racist, and this will be hard with the next question ... but I am white. Will I stick out on Westervelt or blend in? I personally do not care about my neighbors and get along with everyone, but sometimes the neighbors do not get along with everyone...

Most of Bergen County you will feel comfortable. Low crime, decent quality of life. It is nothing like Hudson County in terms of crime or demographics.

I lived in JC and Brooklyn for a while back in late 90's and early 00's. I really want a neighborhood where I can feel safe walking my dogs early in the morning or in the evening. This is good news.

I also lived in Hightstown for a while -- down by Princeton. Surprising amount of drug crime goes on down there. But I am encouraged from what I am hearing about Lodi. This Jersey Girl (by choice, not birth) may be coming back to the Garden State!

Lodi is nothing to worry about.
It's not the best looking town in some areas, but it's a quaint town none the less.

I grew up in the town right next to Lodi... absolutely no problem for you being white in Lodi...

At one point Lodi was all italian... Land of D___ Italians is what they used to call it... (I am italian as well so don't flame me just speakign the facts here)

Commute is fine with a bus right on route 46 (161) to NYC or you can go to Plauderville stop on the train only a few miles from Westervelt.

I believe its safe, my buddy used to live on the north end of westervelt near the North Pole banquet hall. It was clean and safe back then 20 yrs ago, a lot of Italians as I recall.

Should be easy, by car or bus on nearby RT46. Train at Plauderville stop, drive maybe a mile or so west on Outwater Lane into Garfield.

On a plus side you have that new Shop Rite in downtown Lodi. The Walmart on Rt46 however IMO is a dump.
