We will as we always have...food bank donations, toys for tots...etc etc, be it $5 or $500 what ever you can afford as every little bit helps and adds up

I'm backing you up on this one. Right on
My family has donated several bags of canned goods, frozen turkey etc to the Church and to our local Food Pantry. Its a good lesson for my children. A few bucks here & there and a few bags of canned goodds can help someone greatly. Especially if you have a block full of neighbors pitching in all at once. It adds up.

Additionally, twice a year we bag up our old clothes (in good shape) and we take them to the Salvation Army or the Womens Shelter. The toys, the games, the baby items, some clothes too, and cash go to the domestic abuse supervisor at the Police Station.

*The Woman's Shelter & the Domestic Abuse dept. are for women & children that are beat & abused by Angry Men/BOYS. The ones that would have no problem beating a women if she gets out of line.

(I'm not done with him yet)

I also think when you rip that coupon off places like Shop rite, pathmark etc match the total donations from their stores....most of us can at least afford the $2 coupon when we shop

Allocating nonexistent state funds for pet projects is ridiculous. People are so quick to react when state funds are being cut from welfare programs. The reality is, if you really want to help there are so many ways to do so. Volunteering, donating, no one is stopping anyone from donating or helping out. NJ has a tremendous deficit and handing out more state money will not fix that. If people want to help, they can go out there and do it. To allow the state to spend money it does not have in inefficient bureaucratic ways is insanity.

Manahawkin is North Jersey in South Jersey's opinion, and according to a resident I met there, it is actually Central Jersey =P

but anywho, I'm okay with money for soup kitchens, but I do agree that we need to completely revamp welfare so we don't have families living off of it for generations contributing nothing to society

Reps. (I can't give you any more right now! )

I agree. I'm rather saddened that I simply cannot donate anything this year (with about 600 in savings, and bills that are way over that, and still no job [and no unemployment at all]....). I may just volunteer somewhere, like a soup kitchen, to give something.

In the past, each year I'd throw in all my change into the Salvation Army buckets (I would keep a lot of change), just about each time I passed one.

I've been in unfortunate situations (worse than I am now), and I don't think it always boils down to "Laziness" as the OP is suggesting. Things happen. He'd better pray that he's never one of those people.
