If you want to see the northern NJ guido culture, just go to Joey's in Clifton on a Saturday night. There are still pockets of guidos in NJ, though I agree that they are few and far between.

Trash TV is what MTV sells. They struck gold and found some at the Jersey shore. And you can be sure that they will continue to seek out trash all over the country, and when they strike gold once more, they will again turn it into another reality show. The state or location isn't what matters, it's all about the drama queens.

I understand your point, but as a North Jersey guy...I really think you overestimate the amount of those clown types that are from North Jersey. Honestly, most of them are from NY, predominantly Staten Island. The amount of North Jersey people, under the age of 30, that don't pronounce their R's is really microscopic, seriously.

FYI, to Italian Americans, the "G word" is just as offensive as the "N word" is to black people. How that word became acceptable, I have no idea.

Let's see how the black folks like it if we make the N word acceptable in mainstream society....and then make a show about it based in say, Irvington!

I love the "selectably PC" mindset of our modern society.

Maybe it was better when things were not PC at ALL, rather than "selectably PC".
OK you just answered a question I was going to post. I feel the same way, it is offensive and you are so right regarding it's acceptablity.

I am an Italian American and I 100% disagree that the Guido is offensive. And to compare it to the "N" word is insane.

OK, but where are the shows based on other stereotypes? NJ gets it the WORST it seems. Where are the reality shows based on other stereotypes, like a house full of toothless hillbillies in Mississippi??

I think we've seen that stereotype beaten to death in movies over the years.

Then my guess is that you are of a younger generation...which has been desensitized by the "G" word, since it has, per my earlier post, become mainstream.

If you mention the word "Guido" in New Mexico, you would elicit a blank stare.

Does anyone in this forum know or use the word "Cholo"? Try using that here, and see what happens.

I think a lot of these terms are regional. There are probably some terms used by Pennsylvanians and West Virginians in Appalachia that we've never heard of.

Probably. I see it as a term used for dudes wearing Z-Cavarchhi's and driving Iroc's or Camros while wearing gold chains. Basically the cast of Jersey Shore.

I also don't find words like the "N" word as offensive personally but can see how it would elict a MUCH harsher reaction than the "G" word ever would.
