Hi,

I am planning to move to NJ ,where I am getting a job in NY ,

Since I dont have much idea .. I would like to stay in suburb where I can just walk to the NJ transits stations.

Could any one please suggest me the best place to live in near to the train stations.. how much will be the average rent for a two bed room aptmt.

or any suggestion living in NY itself .. I dunno whether I can afford the rent there.

Really appreciate the info's and suggestions.

Thanks
Kiran

Clifton. Rent will be around $1000 - $1200 per month.

You have loads of choices, and your question could get dozens of different answers. With all of the train station communities we have, you have a dizzying number of possibilities to look at.

That being said, if I were in your shoes I would look in South Orange, only because the ride from there is pretty quick, and it's a stable community with a lot going for it. I'm not a big fan of Essex County in general, but South Orange is pretty nice.

This is not just because I live here but Weehawken will be perfect for you. Get an apt. right off Blvd E. the buses run all day and all week very frequently and the ride is 10-15 min into the Port Authority on 42nd St between 8th and 9th Ave. A 2BR here will be slightly more expensive than Clifton and a lot cheaper than Hoboken.

Check Craigslist for apts, if you don't mind sharing an apt you may want to look into Hoboken. My son lives there and he shares a three bedroom apt for 667 a month with utilities. Its safe, you take the path to NYC, plus you have all the bars and restaurants.

To live in Edison/Iselin, your commute time will be bit more. Also you have to take NJT which is far expensive than PATH. So if you are single and don't have family to think about, chose something nearby any PATH station(newport/jersey city).

Also it may be tough to find apartment in Edison/Iselin which is just right across NJT train station whereas you can find those easily in newport/jersey city. New port is bit expensive but nice area if you are sharing apartment with others.

Id go with the Hoboken idea if its in your budget- its just on the other side of the Huson River and the town itself has been pretty much rebuilt for the younger set- who work in NYC. The train is right there- and will bring you into lower Manhattan in 5-10 minutes. Many couples who are priced out of NYC -go to Hoboken. It is pricey though
A little further out- but with reasonable rents and good transit systems(trains/buses)- Little falls, Verona,Monclair,Caldwell even Bloomfield
