Alright, being from New Jersey we all know that the new show "Jersey Shore" on MTV is, although entertaining, completely ridiculous and blown way out of proportion. Anyone who has been to the Jersey show knows that there are very few people like that at the Jerey Shore, and that the Jersey Shore is a place where New Jersey families just like to come and just relax. New Jersey is lucky enough to have a beautiful shoreline where families can just come and enjoy themselves during the summer months.

The only people who would actually believe what is depicted in the show are either from out-of-state, or they're retards... it doesn't really matter what they think though, we know how it really is and we like it. New Jersey is already the most densely populated state in the nation, we don't need tourism... at least not that much of it. Our state's economy doesn't really on it, thankfully.

What I am noticing though is a trend. MTV likes to depict New Jersey as a state full of trashy Italian people that trash up the beaches. They did it in two episodes of True Life, and now they have an entire series devoted to it. In the past, they have created shows like Laguna Beach and The Hills to make Southern California seem more appealing. The people in those shows live in nice homes, wear nice clothes, and drive nice cars all day in the warm California sun. The West Coast is nice and all, sure it's got beautiful beaches just like New Jersey and it's warmer out there... but anyone who has ever been to Southern California knows that it's not all like that. The are between L.A. and San Diego is extremely polluted, congested, and over-populated... nothing like what they show you on those shows. But of course nice parts of California do exist, as well as in New Jersey. And the locals from both Southern Cali and New Jerey know this about their respective states, they have both good and bad parts. MTV however chooses to exagerate the good parts of Cali, and of course exagerate a negative stereotype of New Jersey for reasons I am not sure of.

Actually, it is our 3rd largest industry.

It's the same thing as the Real Housewives of OC or NJ or NY or Atlanta. None of these people are the 'typical' person from that area. Reality shows look for the craziest group and film them to make i interesting. People who believe this is the norm for any of these areas seriously don't have a clue.

I think people are smart enough to realize that the TV producers pick the most interesting people, who are willing to do whatever it takes to get on TV.

No reasonable person thinks the average girl in NJ hooks up with like 3 guys a night. haha

NEVER underestimate the stupidity of the greater American populace. They love their stereotypes. It makes them feel better about who they are & allows them to not use their cognitive abilities.
That my friend is an American win win situation.

Yeah, that would work if enough people did it.

Problem is the show has huge ratings and if only a few Jerseyans protest, it's not going to make a difference.

The only "MTV conspiracy" is that they want to make money, and evidently making fun of d-bags is the easiest way.

Sometimes all is takes is one person. Case in point the show "Married with Children" remember "Al Bundy"?. About 20 years ago they were "pushing the envelope" for ratings when one lady complained and advertisers pulled out. Recently "Glen Beck" lost advertisers because of complaints.

My point is complaining here on CD is kind of like preaching to the choir. If you want to get your messge across find out who the advertisers are and bombard them with complaints.
