Having to move to Newark New Jersey.
I was wanting some advice on a couple things.
1. What city BESIDES Newark would be a good place for family?
MY husband is willing to drive to work, he said 15 ish miles outside Newark but on which ever side of the airport LOL would be fine.
I just keep hearing bad things about Newark itself and we are coming from Vegas, I dont want a bad city again. So any tips you can give on that would be GREAT
2. Does anyone know what a good hospital for labor and delivery would be?
Here in Vegas we drove 45 mins to the best hospital so I wouldnt mind doing that again.
Thanks everyone in advance.
Im just not looking forward to this. I am a small town girl originally and this move is our only choice. My husbands job with US Airways is giving him the choice of take this or be fired. They are doing it to everyone here.
That is why we want to be some what close to the airport but outside Newark.
Thanks

15 miles ???
First, your husband needs to reconsider his "15 ish miles". The airport is located on the NJ Turnpike that can bring you just about anywhere, so, he needs to think in "ish minutes" instead of miles. 15 or 20 minutes on the pike can bring you to some very nice cities/towns.
Second, you will have a choice of quite a few hospitals in NJ but you'll have to figure out where you are living before picking a hospital.
Third, if you're a "small town girl" then you may want to look for a home south of the airport because north is very busy the closer you get to NY.
Hope this helps a little, I'm sure others can help you more when you figure where you will be living.

Newark has great hospitals- starting with the University Medical Ctr - and Newark Airport is Busier than Kennedy and LaGuirdia(NY)- (Kennedy is big on International- ) Newark does more domestic flights than both- - and it is on the outskirts even though its technically Newark- easy to get in and out of...
Plenty of OK Neighborhoods- Plenty of questionable- -
Plenty of threads on all of them- -
I like the Ironbound section- -near downtown, streets are paved, lots of shopping, restuarants, and shops- - and the Arena is not far
Use common sence when you read all the "Newark area" posts- -some people that havent been there since 1968 -think its the same place

Hospital - Hackensack University Medical; has it's own Womens & Child facility with a pediatric emergency room, that's in Hackensack. University Medical is a teaching hospital and likely has just as good a facility.
Most people do not want to live in Newark, if they can avoid it. Look at a map, 15 miles outside of Newark leaves lots of possibilities open to you.

Don't forget, there's also excellent mass transit to Newark as well.
Where in Newark is your husband working and how much are you willing to pay?
If he's working at the airport, there's easy access from the train, buses, parkway, and turnpike.

There are plenty of very desirable neighborhoods within an easy commute of Newark. It seems to me you've been seriously misinformed -- there are some very desirable neighborhoods within an easy drive of Newark (e.g. look up Short Hills).
You don't state anything about your budget or what kind of housing you're looking for. This will affect the options available to you.
Regarding hospitals, Columbia Presbytarian hospital in Washington Heights (New York City) is excellent, if you don't mind a drive.

Your best best would be to go within a 15 mile zone to the west of Newark, there are some great towns, with great schools and hospitals here are a few to consider, they will be expensive but the safety and education system the provide as well as quality of life is well worth the cost. (In no particular order)
-Summit
-West Orange
-The Caldwells
-Chatham
-Milburn
-Westfield
-Mountainside
-Cranford
-Livingston
-Monclair
-Morristown
-Parcipinny/Troy Hills

OP...there are probably over 250 "cities" you could live in with a decent commute to Newark international airport. NJ is fractured into a whole bunch of small places, geographically, unlike western cities where most of the metropolitan area is actually within the main city's limits. What's your budget?

You mean your total take-home income is going to be $1800? Or $1800 for rent?
