NORTH NORTH NORTH NORTH NORTH!

north east to be exact!

it has NYc, its has more to do, more diverse, and its where all my family is.

and with the south part of jersey, its like goin into virginia... buncha hicks, diffrent kinds of people. They are to caught up on how tough they arr... i dont see why, because they said it to me "ooo so your from north jersey, so you must be scared in your boots", i was like HUH, in these sticks... I'd love to see you walk in the streets of irvington at midnight because they think its all yuppy up here and its really not. Not that im proud of that about North Jersey, but alot of them want or think south jersey is "ghetto"(besides the philli metro) but its really not compared to a lot of north jersey.

What i say, when your yonug, its all the way for North Jersey and when your gettin od, go to south jersey.

Please don't compare SJ to Virginia,I've been all through that great state and they are some good people.

SJ 'tough' hicks on the other hand are more like backwoods PA wannabees with a touch of 'Phillbilly'(a term I created for people who live in parts and outskirts of Philly who act like hillbillies, which basically consists of a Ford F-350 with gun stickers on them and maybe a confed flag in their yards)

Woodbury is sort of 'Philly lite'...you got some 'thug' lookin people and some homeless lookin people and just an overall strange vibe for the most part, but with Jersey laws so it kinda keeps em in line

As for going south of Perth Amboy, everything probably seems like hick country just because it's so populated in north Jersey!

Not that I would ever do such a thing but a South Jerseyan could just as soon dare you to walk the streets of Camden at 2:00 AM

Ugh...don't get me started on the folks who mistakenly believe that South Jersey was a bastion of the Confederacy...

Ya know, this thread has me thinking-I'm not sure where the hell I live anymore Geographically speaking I'm certainly not in South Jersey as I live nearly 3 miles NORTH of Route 78. What's even more bizarre is that despite being 63 miles (as the car drives) from Philadelphia and 54 miles from New York City I only get Philly's ABC-6 over rabbit ears (we haven't called for cable yet) though I suspect it has something to do with the 800-1000' ridges to the east. My poor North Jersey raised fiancee is utterly baffled by this and may as well be watching the news in Russian No one we've met in the neighborhood as of yet drinks "caw-fee," or "tawks," or says "Not for nuthin..." However, no one drinks "wooder," or says "phone," or "home," in the familiar South Jersey twang that tends to come out when I've spent time with my family. The local diner has "pork roll" and not "taylor ham" on the menu, but one of the local bars is littered with Jets paraphernalia. Finally, Cat Country out of Easton comes in just as clearly as K-Rock out of New York. In short, I think for time being I'm going to refer to where we live as "West Jersey" as we're 20 minutes from the Delaware and at least an hour and a half from being "Down the Shore." While we're not certain at all "where" we live, we sure do like it

West Jersey, the hidden, greatest section of NJ known to man...

(PS: Get Dish through Embarq with DSL for internet - Comcast is WAY more expensive.... and they have a free tv for a year offer right now... they didn't have that when I moved )

________________
EDIT - and I'll be your referral! ($25 off for me, not as good as free Dish for a year, but hell I'll take it lol)

I don't think Camden was the part of south Jersey they meant, probably just the pine barrens & such

North NJ > More city life, more expensive, crowded
South NJ > Less crowd, more ''Take it Easy'' people, suburbs people

Jackson is not in South Jersey. It's not South Jersey to the people who live there and it's not South Jersey to the people from South Jersey. If they know where Jackson is at all it's only because they've been to Great Adventure.

As someone else said - drive down Route 38 through Cherry Hill and Moorestown and it's indistinguishable from driving down Route 35 through Holmdel and Middletown. Drive down the White Horse Pike through Haddon Heights and it's indistinguishable from driving down Maple Ave. in Red Bank.

The area of North Jersey (north of the Raritan and east of the Parkway) is unique. Outside of that area the rest of the state is pretty much the same in terms of the people, lifestyles, etc. There are some cultural differences but the east/west axis is more significant than the north/south divide.

Personally, I feel a lot more comfortable with Pineys in Chatsworth than I do with the hillbillies in places like West Milford or Vernon.
