One thing I am sure of having grown up in NJ. I have had little or no problem adapting to the very different environments I have lived in since. That does not mean I have liked every environment that I have lived in but I can handle myself pretty much anywhere and I will give some props to NJ for that. I don't give props very often. Anyone who has seen my posts here can testify to that.
I like the fact that I grew up in a place where it was o.k. to have an opinion and where I had some awareness of the outside world. Not the vacation land outside world. The real one. This has been a clear advantage for me in many circumstances and though it is due in part to how I grew up not just where- "location" was still probably a large part of that equation.
Like I've said before, choosing to live elsewhere does not a hater make. That is just silly really. As far as the topic at hand- I actually like the areas of NJ that are close to Philly. They feel very very different from northern and most of central NJ and the pace is slower. People do not have the wall up as much and are not in so much of a rush. I have met many very cool people from that area in my travels.

This is very true!
OH, and by the way...referencing a post above...GO METS! (Inherited a Mets loyalty from my grandfather, ah well...he was still talking about the Brooklyn Dodgers when I was a little girl, so nobody take my taste in sports too seriously... )

Yes, Jersey has the shore but its gets more Local Travel because there are better beaches elsewhere. Most either charge a fee to go on the Beach or Wildwood Hotels look like something out of a 50s Nobel.
No Hiltons, Marriots, etc, That means bad beds. Great, for people driving there but you fly to stay in an area that doesn't have a Decent hotel with the exception of AC in south Jersey.
I heard there is a nice resort in North Jersey but would not fly there when I can go to nicer places.

BYW, I do like the area of NJ which is adjacent to Bucks County. I love New Hope and also the Jersey side of Bridge, Lambretville, Its kind of like you have left the state.
That is the part I recommended to someone that was doing a Road trip.

Are you serious? This was humor. The whole southern thing. Really...are you serious?
A few fries short of a Happy Meal, I guess?
God, oh man, now I feel bad. I mean just...holy cow.

You say: 'with the exception of AC in South Jersey' as if it's insignificant I could just as easily say there aren't many great hotels in NYC with the exception of Manhattan, but what out-of-stater wants to go to NYC to stay outside Manhattan?

I just saw this...what the hell are you talking about??? Yeah, this is a real eyesore. Stay away from this stink-hole.
(Since you don't understand general humor as evidenced by your previous post to me, just a heads-up: that's that new thing they call "sarcasm".)
Of course, there's this one too, but I'm not 100% sure about the safety of Teaneck, especially as compared to these other extremely desirable towns I'm mentioning in this post, but I figured I'd throw it in, what the heck...another example of a total eyesore...I mean look at this place...eeeeeeeeeeeeew.
Oh, gosh, did we mention Hiltons? How about we mention Hiltons again? Aw heck. As long as we're at it, we might as well mention them again.
Gosh, you're right. One disgusting bunch of flea-bitten hotels in northern NJ, and surely no Marriotts or Hiltons. Those buildings are just a mirage.
You are not a travel agent...I'd bet my credit card-swiping hand. You "heard there's" a--as in one, uno, singular--"nice resort" in northern NJ? Are your clients aware that you're clueless about the area in general? I don't for a minute believe you actually work in travel. It's just impossible.
