Yes, Jersey has the shore but its gets more Local Travel because there are better beaches elsewhere. Most either charge a fee to go on the Beach or Wildwood Hotels look like something out of a 50s Nobel. No Hiltons, Marriots, etc, That means bad beds. Great, for people driving there but you fly to stay in an area that doesn't have a Decent hotel with the exception of AC in south Jersey.
I heard there is a nice resort in North Jersey but would not fly there when I can go to nicer places.
Diane
You obviously have not been to Wildwood Crest or Cape May recently.
But I really need to know : What is a 50s Nobel ???????

Have you seen the coolest Motel renovation in Wildwood? No, I didn't think so Diane. So I'll post the link StarLux Boutique Hotel and Meeting Place - Welcome

North Jersey is very different on the west side vs. east side. If you like lots of people, traffic, NY...stick to NE Jersey. NW Jerseyans are country folk....Sussex and Warren Counties. Although we just visited Sussex County and it's starting to be infiltrated. Central Jersey (where I live) is great if you want to be in NYC, PA on the Delaware River or at the Jersey shore in 1 hour. The problem in Central Jersey is it's getting way overcrowded! This used to be farmland when I grew up in the 60's. Now retirement communities have taken over...people retiring from NY and North Jersey so the flavor of central Jerseyans has completely changed. People are more materialistic and workaholics. The women drive around in big suv's and yak on their cell phones...even though it's against the law. The true native central Jerseyans are moving out. South Jersey is very flat. The shore is for people with money and inland is piney. If you like pine trees and sandy soil and no crowds, that part is for you. Everyone 'up north' feels the south is not quite as civilized as we'd like....the joke is 'think Deliverance'.

This exchange is just too funny to read. As I've said before I grew up just south of Trenton, where one half of my family is from. The other half is made up of Burlington County farmers. This past weekend I took a ride with some friends (from Mays Landing) and my girlfriend (from Sussex County) to Cowtown Rodeo (my aunt used to barrel race there) in Woodstown. It was the first time I'd been there since I was a little kid and it hasn't changed a bit, which I was happy to see. Now I grew up on the edge of farm country, and I've hunted, hiked, and camped in the pines and up in the skylands, but Salem County feels more like Oklahoma then New Jersey! I swear when you're driving on Route 40 heading west it looks like the flattest terrain outside of the Great Plains. I could see how folks from Essex or Bergen might feel a little out of place down there but I feel right at home.

I think sometimes it's more about where in North Jersey you live vs. where in South Jersey you live. I think someone from say Montclair and someone from Cherry Hill may find out they have a lot more in common than they think and terms of life style. But throw that Cherry Hill person into Sussex County or throw that Montclair person into Salem or Cumberland county, they'd probably be scared. It's a very suburban vs. rural type thing.
