I am considering moving to Howell from Staten Island and have looked at some houses in the Ramtown area. I recently found some information on line from a few years back about the water in Ramtown being contaminated with high levels of radium. I haven't been able to find any current news on the topic. Does anyone have any information about the current situation with the water in this area? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks !

Default yes--i have a girlfriend that lives in Ramtown--they cant drink the water! They have a water cooler.

also--i have heard that in certain parts of howell--your water bill is outrageously high. Before buying--ask to see a copy of the current owners so you can either avoid it-or plan for it...

Thanks. Does anyone know if there have been any improvements in that area? I am reading a lot of information but nothing seems to be recent. Why are the water prices so high??

Talking originally from brooklyn/SI

I would recommend, Manalapan, Marlboro or Freehold twp. You are in a better school system, plenty of shopping off 9. Depending on what town your are in, it's 10 miles from Turnpike or Gardenstate. These areas do not have any water problems or criminal issues. Taxes are b/t 8-20k. You get what you pay for, plus these areas have plenty of New Yorkers (comfort level). I hoped I helped you. Oh, also avoid Toms river(water Problems). I am still looking myself. I've been here renting in Freehold and trying to find a home for about 1 yr, if have more questions, I would be glad to answer them.

Mike

FWIW at the high school level howell and the other towns mentioned are all part of the same district, freehold regional HS district. Each town has it's own HS but that doesn't guarantee that any house you buy will be zoned for the local school
