Maplewood
We are looking for a nice place to buy a first house and start a family. We were looking into Maplewood,NJ. Does anyone know more about this area? Or have any other suggestions?

I grew up in South Orange the neighboring town to Maplewood. Maplewood is a really quaint town with beautiful old neighborhoods. Taxes in theses towns are outrageous! NJ is high but if you plan on sending kids to school here be sure it is for you. They don't offer a full day kindergarten and you might want to stop by the high school and be sure this is where you want to send your kids. I wasn't impressed when I went 20 years ago and I'm still not.

Just think first if buying on the Irvington border side. Ultimately Maplewood is nice though.

I live in Maplewood and will probably be relocating to MD in the next year or so. We have lived here 5 years. I like our home, but the taxes are out of control. Maplewood is a nice community. There have been some questions about the high school but the test scores seem okay.

The High school seems to be Fine, the test scores seem sort of average borderlined because the high school has a high minority population. For elementary schools, I believe South Orange has the better ones.

Our house is a couple of blocks from South Orange so the elementary school our child would attend is in South Orange but my child is not school aged so I do not have personal experience with the schools.

if your child is attending a S. Orange school are you sure that you don't really live in S. Orange?

South Orange and Maplewood share a school district. Yes, I am sure I live in Maplewood near the reservation. South Mountain school is in South Orange but children who live on my street in Maplewood do go there. And my child does not attend school yet, I think I made that clear.
