Default Journal Square area

Hello everyone!

I am looking to rent a house long term in the Journal square area (at intersection of Academy St & Summit Ave). It's right next to Jersey City Municipal Court.

Need your honest opinion -

1) How is the crime rate there overall? (i.e. would you be very worried if your gf had to walk home from PATH station by herself around 8-9pm)

2) Is it getting any better in terms of crime?

3) If you'd compare it to any neighborhood in NYC, what it would be?

Thanks!

1. Some blocks are pretty well kept others are kind of shady. Very convienent though to everything. And thats whats saving it. Walking at 8 or 9 o'clock you should just be careful.

2. Journal Square is one of those neighborhoods that are always getting better. Not sure if you have ever been to bergenline ave but alot of Journal Square used to just look like that. Now you can see its a good deal cleaner and ofcaurse alot of professionals coming in and out. Journal Square is a hub for everything so it is always gettin better because of what it has to offer.

3. Probably Downtown Brooklyn.

in the past two years I have seen more and more yuppies getting off at Journal Square PATH Train station. I think it is the next hot neighborhood.

it's not the worst but it is far from safe, I wouldn't want to be there at 9pm, and I'm not a female

Thanks, this changes my pespective a bit. I was thinking of moving to Astoria or Forest Hills. I guess there is a substantial difference in safety (i.e. can't compare Astoria / Forest Hills to Journal Square).

I wouldnt really say that. And i definatley wouldnt say its like jamaica queens. More like parts of Sheepshead Bay without the water. Jamaica is way more suburban.
