I recently got a job in this town but really don't know much about this place. I am 24, single. Is this a good place to live?(safe? living expenses? thing to do?)

Thanks!

Its somewhat rural. Its very safe. Its a cute town. I wouldn't say its a very exciting place though. I'm not sure about living expenses because I was staying w/ someone else for free when I was there. I think its mid range expensive for NJ towns.

I wouldn't say its rural, but a nice, safe town. Not much to do. Near Route 17 so you could jump on there and take it to the malls, shopping, restaurants, etc

Mahwah is the prototypical suburban town. Lots of boring neighborhoods and shopping along Route 17. Oddly, it is also a very expensive town to live in from a real estate perspective. The median home price over the last 6 months is $670,000. Pretty insane given the distance from New York City and total lack of charm. But there is also a fair amount of corporate employment within the town itself, and it is convenient to other employment centers in northern Bergen County.

Mahwah is home to the palatial mansions of Rio Vista at one end of the market, and the backwoods poverty of the mysterious and isolated Ramapo Lenape Indians of Stag Hill Rd and Hillburn just over the border. Whom, by the looks of their newly minted web presence and organizational status, appear to be fixing to attempt to get in on the casino gravy train.

There are plenty of apartment complexes to rent in around the Mahwah area or just over the border in Suffern.

You should have no problems up there, but if nightlife is your thing, you will be commuting to the clubs. Mahwah is not, shall we say, a singles hotspot. But since everyone seems to shop online these days, physical location may no longer be much of an issue.

Mahwah is a huge town geographically. I would look to rent at one of the apt complexes on Franklin TPK. Close to route 17, the train station, and Suffern NY.

There are things to do in the area. Suffern NY is a fun place if your looking to go out. Theres many restaurants, a bunch of resturants, a movie theater, a bunch of shops, and about 5 or 6 bars within short walking distance of each other.

RT 17 has all the major stores on it so its really not very rural at all.

Its not rural , but it is spaced out , there are alot of shopping options there and you can hope a Train to NYC which 35-50mins away by Train. Crime is non-exsistant , there are alot parks up there. I think for the most part you'll fit right in.

Mahwah is probably the largest (area) town in bergen county. it is very safe, but pretty boring (the same goes for most of these towns though). I would not hesitate to live here for basic needs and reasonable cost of living for an apartment (like $1000 a month I would figure). You can always hop on the train to hoboken or the city if that is your thing.

Mahwah's a nice place to start, a solid place to live, and will give you lots of options for employment, shopping, and things to do... You're sort of centrally located between the city (SE), Paramus (S), and Parsippany/Morristown (SW)... you can be in any of those 3 spots within 30 minutes of leaving Mahwah... it would be incredibly difficult to run out of things to do or people to meet.

Good Points here... I had 2 of my close friends buy their 1st places to live in Condo Complexes in Mahwah (they were both about 25 at the time). They loved the town. Easy enough by train to get to NYC, a short hop over to Suffern for Food and Drinks, tons of little stores on 17 and close to Palisades Center Mall, Woodbury Commons and close enough to Parmus Park Mall or Gardens State Plaza.

I am surprised that a Real Estate agent doesn't see the draw to Mahwah and why people would pay to live there. It is a great town. It is very safe, it has great schools, you can still find nice homes with good size properties and the taxes are fairly low.
It is on our list of places we would love to settle down and raise a family in.
