Hoping you all can help me. My job is being transferred to Union (from Philly) and we are going to relocate. Can you give some ideas of towns with good schools? Our budget is $500,000 max and I'd like to keep the commute withinn 45 minutes if possible, but that is more flexible than the budget.
Friendly town with a 'small town feel". Schools are excellent (my kids went from K-12) and were totally prepared for a top notch college.
Great parks, library and town programs for kids.
We have lived here since 1978 and have never regretted our decision.
About 10-15 minutes to Union depending on where.
Good Luck wherever you end up!
I second your second on Cranford. Cranford is very comparable to Westfield at a lower price point. If you are looking for a downtown, excellent schools, in a safe community, don't miss looking into Cranford.
Cool, I will definitely look into Cranford. Some folks mentioned New Providence and Berkeley Heights to me, can I afford those or are they out of my range?
New Providence and Berkeley Heights are doable if you are not looking for a dream home. A Cape or a Ranch can be had for your budget if you shop carefully. A Bi-Level or Split Level that needs some work might also be possible. If you are considering those, Fanwood and Scotch Plains also become possibilities. Again, modest homes at that price point, but certainly livable.
Clark is also pretty good.
But I agree, make Cranford #1 on your list.
