If it's Jersey City versus LOWER Manhattan ... I'd choose JC, at any age. Lower Manhattan is relatively boring, (or at least not any more "exciting" than the JC waterfront) and to do anything fun after work you'd have to go to another neighborhood, so it would be just as easy to jump on the PATH from JC to get to say, the West Village. In fact, it's QUICKER to get to the West Village from Jersey City than it is from Lower Manhattan/Financial District.

The only reason I'd go to Manhattan to work is because of its people, and the sightseeing, other than that, natha.
