Security deposit question
I moved out of my place on Dec 31, 2009. My landlord lives abroad (long story) but he since he lives there he has my phone number and email address. I never sent him my new address however when I moved out. I still havent heard from him about my security deposit and it has been well over a month. Did I need to tell him where I was moving or since he can contact me is it his responsibility to do so? Do I have the right now to go to small claims court and get 2x my deposit?

Well if you did not provide a new address how was he to mail you back a settlement statement & return of your security. You can't do that by email.
Maybe he did send it and it was returned as undeliverable by the post office. Did you put a change of address in with post office???
I would contact him asap with all the details of where you now live.

Yes, call him, but you should also have the bank information where it is kept? By law, it has to be in an interest-bearing bank account with your name on it as well as his. I get bank statements yearly regarding mine.

I get the bank statements yearly as well and my mailing address is being forwarded to my new place. I was more curious if it was his job to contact me to get my new mailing address or what.

No it's your responsibility to provide fowarding address. If you put a change of address in with post office and have not received anything I would give him a call/email asap. If no response then yes I would take it to court.

It seems silly to me to wait for him to try to track you down when you could just give him your new address?

By the way you can get treble (triple) your deposit if he doesn't return it in a timely matter. You gotta let him know asap. I'd call and send a certified letter so I could prove in court that I passed on the information.
