Default GSP Northbound connection to I-78 West?

I'm trying to give someone directions. I know that there have been some changes recently with the interchanges around I-78 that might not be reflected on GPS or online maps ...

If someone is driving northbound up the GSP, is there an easy (i.e. direct) connection to I-78 West? It seems like in the maps I'm seeing online right now, you'd have to get on I-78 East, and then get off and turn around near Hillside or something. That seems pretty retro, have they changed that?

Basically, I'm trying to give someone the most simple directions from coming north up the GSP to get to Summit.

northbound GSP the new exit for 78W is just past the toll. i'm not sure of the exit #, but as long as they stay to the right (but not in the 78E only lane) going through the toll, it's pretty clearly marked.

i've done it once or twice, speeds up the trip quite a bit.

They have changed that, very recently. So most maps and navi systems will probably still send you the old way (78E and turn-around). The new ramp to 78W is open.

You can say that again! I don't travel that route very often, but how stupid was that going east to go west nonsense.

I was back in NJ for the holidays and actually experienced the GSP to I-78 West connection for the first time. For my entire life, I too was used to going east on 78 to the Hillside exit then the U-Turn. I have to say that was amongst the most positive changes I observed on my trip back to the great Garden State. That ramp was at least 20 years overdue (1989 was when 24 opened to Rt 287).

I remember Chancellor Ave was Exit 142 and Vauxhall was 141. So that's a good question about what the exit # is.

Ah yes, that would be Winans Ave, a road I used often to get to a customer near Weequahic Park (a baptist church, actually). The other way gets you into the middle of Irvington past the industrial buildings. Both ways, one could easily have made that wrong turn due to signage and sudden U-Turns. My sister made the same mistake as you did Kate, and really didn't like it very much.

That was the same area where at about 11 am one morning, some kid came up to my car while I was waiting at a light and slammed my car with a 2 x 4. I pulled over, and the kid ran down the street, into a backyard. Suddenly an 'associate' of his came up to me and apologized on his behalf, saying he was drunk. He further urged me not to call the police.
