Reading your post you and your kids are seemingly part of the problem of Newark and any City for that matter and you are clearly too lazy and scared to be part of a solution. You have nothing to offer Newark NJ or any place where people live and work to better themselves.

You seem like one of those folks who sat on the side lines and watched on TV and the news as black people were being murdered and killed by white people from "good" neighborhoods who wanted to maintain the Legal 'hell-on-earth' for black people called "Jim Crow" just a few years ago. Your type are too scared to do anything truely unselfish. Many black people; women and children were killed so that blacks could have the right to own a house in Newark; even to walk Newarks racist streets. These people who died horrible deaths at the hands of people from "safe" nieghborhoods new that their is a price to make OUR way in this USA. These people could not just GO to another "safe" area and live. The horror was everywhere.

WE had to make our own safe place.

You do not get that of course.

WE are in Newark for a reason bigger than any murder rate or any other various myriad fears of the outsiders nor for the outstanding economic growth of Newark. Reasons that of course do not and by nature can not matter to outsiders.

Yes Newark has problems but who is supposed to solve them?

You?

NO!!!

The people that are making the difference are already in Newark CREATING CHANGE while you and I are posting on this useless thread.

These people do not bother to waste time with silly threads like this one. They probably may look and laugh at how pityful we all are.

Also these people who are making the difference are far out of reach from the simple, debt riddled, suburbanite 'throwbacks' on this thread that are pre-occupied with trying to make there modest lives mean something in their meager existance who have everything to loose and can not afford too much chance. They are the middle class poor. 'American Dreamers'; shopping at K-Mart and eating Hamburger Helper in huge oversized, overbudget custom kitchens.

I have driven threw their "safe", "good" towns like Union, Kenilworth, Belleville, Nutley, Bloomfield and the like.

TIRED!!!

However; if you are one of them it may be safer than Newark.

To me it is like Newark without the black people. I saw greasy headed white boys looking like 'gangstas' burning out their car tires doing donuts. One Guy drove into a fire hydrant. I just laughed to myself and thought how jipped I wouild have felt leaving Newark just to put up with more of what I could have had to deal with in Newark...

The busted houses in these towns have so many mortgages on them they will probably never be able to sell them.

I hope one of these folks who post here about how "safe" where they live is are ready for a 'project babe' (or dude) like you and her/his two "nice" boys.

They called me an "eggplant" (maybe I am). But I was ready with my small but handy use of Italian and Irish (Muenstre dialect). Of course none of the boys understood what I was saying; although they knew that I was using Italian and Irish. Ignorant and uncultured!

And they would be the first to say "I am Irish". I say yeah right!!
Then I ask them "Qwanus Tawtew"?
The offer confused eyes than I say "NO ANSWER...because you are ignorant of your own culture. I am more Irish than you"

Maybe you are not as dark skinned as me amd may avoid the low lifes in the nice town you are going to.

Whatever the case...

I feel sorry for the the folks in the town you are going to be "smoking" into in 2008.

That's there problem now.

Newark won't miss you either.

Bye Bye!!!

You'd rather just resort to childish namecalling with your "clueless idiot" comment, the same way his response to anyone who points out the reality of Newark (outside of the semi-decent few blocks he chooses to isolate himself in) is to call them a "hater". I don't recall showing "hate" toward anyone or anyplace, but that's a common response among those who can't properly debate a point or face reality.

As for me, I'll just continue to be a clueless idiot hater while I sit weakly in my safe neighborhood (sounds pretty sad when you put all of your moronic statements together in one sentence, doesn't it???), and you and Tank can cruise around Newark in your beamer, grabbing some chinese at the restaurant that his doorman recommends. Have a good time.....
I really like Bedminster NJ. The Homes have my kind of styling and design.

My childhood buddy Mark moved to Flemington into this TIRED!!!! newly built heap. He moved out after his oldest boy was jumped and stomped by a group of rowdy low-lives in 1999. He was only 12 years old. I told Mark it is hard to protect your kids in these "good" towns.

Mark now lives in Atlanta now in 5 BR McMansion and his son is attending West Point.

I am sorry for the "clueless idiot" comment. I got carried away.

You were right I did not feel like debating. I should have just passed.

I am a tough talker but never that tough...Sorry!

Oh!

My beamer is not doing well. I should have kept the 04 5 Series. The 08 I have now makes allot of noise when between gears that they have not been able to correct yet. Oh well!

But I love driving around my town on the weekends. So you can bet If I am alive I will be doing that. I can not drive to the Golf course lately since the bridge that connect my Street to the course is closed for repair. That is beat. I could go in from the Hillside NJ side but I just walk. The Newark side entrance is the front entrance. I do not set well with back entrances. The season is almost over anyway

Also; I hate Chineese food.

Indian food; now that good eats!. We have two new very nice Indian joints in the City now.

This has been part of American life since its founding. It is not about golf courses and condos and Starbucks.

You don't have the language or relevant experience to facilitate a discussion on issues of race-or on Newark and places like it. That is painfully obvious.

The average ten year old in Newark would be more knowledgeable. The majority of the posters here are no better but they are not claiming to be Newark residents or acting like they are on a mission.

This is not about good guys and bad guys or the well heeled and the lower class. It isn't just about crime either, though you make it sound like that is the bottom line with everything.

No actual person with any true life experience would want to jump into the discussion here. I have to assume you have figured that out by now. You seem not to be interested in any genuine sort of discourse. Race baiting people is not helpful.

Race really can't be ignored in a true discussion about Newark or its future but if you don't have an understanding of that, there is no way to see the larger picture. There are many Newarks. They are all over the U.S.

If you reduce the discussion to crime fighting the good guys vs bad guys- it will always deteriorate quickly. The criminal element is not limited to Newark. There are much larger issues going on here. This is not about weeding out bad seeds and then all will be well. Even that 10 year old knows it.
OK I do not type well.

I may not spell well either.

But so far that has not stopped me from getting a College Degree and design buildings for a living.

Not to bad form a dumb-dumb like me.

I may also sound like a show off to many here. I can explain that.....I am a show-off.

As far as my "relevant experience" or lack thereof to handle a discussion on Race. Well maybe I have no relevant exprience. You tell me? Does my black skin and African/Ethiopian blood help me any. I think so. But I may be wrong. You seem to be the authority. I have been black all my life in a racist white society. That should count for something...right?

I have a great pride in what Newark is today. Newark went from a bigoted and hoplesssly racist city, than a burnt city (caused by oppression) to a lost city and now it is one of Americas major business and economic hubs with a burst of urban renewal, infrastructure improvements and a beacon for the Arts, Sports and entertainment Markets.

Newark has one of the largest Medical schools in the world and a complete well established colledge and University community from Law to Engineering to Dentistry and the Liberal Arts.

WE are talking about billions of dollars of investment over the last 15 to 20 years which include the PA of NY and NJ expansion of the Airport and Ports.

Residential realestate prices sextupled over the last 15 to 20 years.

I have not even began to touch on the major points.

But I can say this. This little bit I did mention is not because of people like you. You can be sure of that.

And if Newark is to ever have a chance it must distance itself from you and your kind.This means the good and the bad must be extricated from the hands of those who DO NOT have Newarks growth as a priority.

Without that priority Newark will remian a stagnant place, arrested from its true potential.

The people that have been and are now making Newark happen do not know you are your kind. These people have plans for Newark you would not believe.

You should watch this issue more closely. The day is coming very soon and is already happening in certain key areas where those who are sub-versive will have to move on. You know who I am talking about. The counter-culture, street dealers and so on, geeks, do nothings, wonderers, the negative. BYE BYE time is upon them and is only just beginning

You may find these types moving right next to you.

There is already one poster here who says she is moving out of the projects in 2008 and out of Newark after 37 years.

Hmm??

Why move after so much time?

This person is a pro it seems?

SHE DID NOT MENTION that the reason is that they are going to blow up the remaining public project buildings in 2008 to make room for parks rec. centers and private affordable housing 'to-buy' NOT RENT. She really is not "moving" from Newark as she states; actually her and her 'riff-raff' are being thrown out of Newark.

Say what you want that someone should not move to Newark; I can relate to this a little. But the facts are just not on the side of such thinking. As we speak people are moving into homes and new condos and offices spaces, the Devils Hockey team is settling in as well as the NJ Philharmonic.

Newark is not for everybody right now. Just for those who know what up and are ready to position themsleves now for where the City is going and and many respects have already arrived.

Of course none of this have anything to do with you and your kind.

Default Is Newark that bad?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Yes!! I live next to it. Don't move there. Try Mt Claire, or Arlington if you have to stay in Union County. But Union County is not the first county I suggest. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee! Don't move to Elizabeth either. We are in a gang war right now. You can't walk on street when the sun goes down unless you are getting in a car, in fear of getting shot. In 2 days we have 2 dead and 2 wounded.
DAT.. honestly man, are you really listening to yourself? It sounds like you're really minimizing the hugely negative aspects of Newark.
Me and a friend of mine (who attends school up there) were walking from his apartment to the station I believe on Broad Street. It was like 1:30 in the morning and there were a few kids (couldn't have been older than 12 or 13) out on the streets by themselves. Basically they started by chucking a few rocks and pebbles our way, then hurled a brown-bagged bottle down the subway steps at us. Why? I guess cause we had the audacity to be white?
Months later that same friend, who is an architecture student who gushes openly about all the things he wants to build and help design in Newark to bring the city back, got jumped by six black males who attacked him from behind with a brick to the head, then proceeded to kick and punch at him until he was able to get himself to his feet and fight them off long enough to run away. They broke his cellphone and stole $15. Broke his orbital bone and slipped a disc in his back. All in broad daylight while he was walking home from class.
Yeah, Newark is awesome. Teach whitey a lesson. How dare he come to your city and get himself an education. He ought to know better. He just don't get it, son. He deserved it; after all, it used to be the other way around, right?
Get real.
I am not naive and I realize there are drugs and other crime in Newark. But it seems to be like most metro cities in the US. I felt like when I was there searching that it is an environment that if you mind your own business, stay in and be smart.... life will be ok.
My concern is I have small children (two are school age). Are there ANY good schools there? Surrounding the apartment are other families and single persons who have nice apartments and work hard.
My kids safety is #1 so are the horror stories exaggerated? Does anyone have any personal accounts?
Thanks for reading and any responses!!!
newark is not a nice place to live. your not going to instantly die or be a crime victim if you visit there but if your in the area long enough like living or freqenting there is a good chance your car could get stolen or you could be robbed. every precinct in that city has a high crime rate. its not worth it that place really is a mess and there are so many problem. so many bad neighborhoods in that city. even here in brooklyn we have bad areas as bad as the worst areas in newark even but in newark good luck finding a really good place to live.
Sorry your friend got beat up.
Reminds me of when I was jumped and beaten in broad daylight by a whole mob of white kids in Verona NJ some years ago. I still like Verona; NOT the bad people who you can find there or anywhere. I never thought to consider the whole town as racist just because of a few. That would be stupid.
