This has been part of American life since its founding. It is not about golf courses and condos and Starbucks.
You don't have the language or relevant experience to facilitate a discussion on issues of race-or on Newark and places like it. That is painfully obvious.
The average ten year old in Newark would be more knowledgeable. The majority of the posters here are no better but they are not claiming to be Newark residents or acting like they are on a mission.
This is not about good guys and bad guys or the well heeled and the lower class. It isn't just about crime either, though you make it sound like that is the bottom line with everything.
No actual person with any true life experience would want to jump into the discussion here. I have to assume you have figured that out by now. You seem not to be interested in any genuine sort of discourse. Race baiting people is not helpful.
Race really can't be ignored in a true discussion about Newark or its future but if you don't have an understanding of that, there is no way to see the larger picture. There are many Newarks. They are all over the U.S.
If you reduce the discussion to crime fighting the good guys vs bad guys- it will always deteriorate quickly. The criminal element is not limited to Newark. There are much larger issues going on here. This is not about weeding out bad seeds and then all will be well. Even that 10 year old knows it.

OK I do not type well.
I may not spell well either.
But so far that has not stopped me from getting a College Degree and design buildings for a living.
Not to bad form a dumb-dumb like me.
I may also sound like a show off to many here. I can explain that.....I am a show-off.
As far as my "relevant experience" or lack thereof to handle a discussion on Race. Well maybe I have no relevant exprience. You tell me? Does my black skin and African/Ethiopian blood help me any. I think so. But I may be wrong. You seem to be the authority. I have been black all my life in a racist white society. That should count for something...right?
I have a great pride in what Newark is today. Newark went from a bigoted and hoplesssly racist city, than a burnt city (caused by oppression) to a lost city and now it is one of Americas major business and economic hubs with a burst of urban renewal, infrastructure improvements and a beacon for the Arts, Sports and entertainment Markets.
Newark has one of the largest Medical schools in the world and a complete well established colledge and University community from Law to Engineering to Dentistry and the Liberal Arts.
WE are talking about billions of dollars of investment over the last 15 to 20 years which include the PA of NY and NJ expansion of the Airport and Ports.
Residential realestate prices sextupled over the last 15 to 20 years.
I have not even began to touch on the major points.
But I can say this. This little bit I did mention is not because of people like you. You can be sure of that.
And if Newark is to ever have a chance it must distance itself from you and your kind. This means the good and the bad must be extricated from the hands of those who DO NOT have Newarks growth as a priority.
Without that priority Newark will remian a stagnant place, arrested from its true potential.
The people that have been and are now making Newark happen do not know you are your kind. These people have plans for Newark you would not believe.
You should watch this issue more closely. The day is coming very soon and is already happening in certain key areas where those who are sub-versive will have to move on. You know who I am talking about. The counter-culture, street dealers and so on, geeks, do nothings, wonderers, the negative. BYE BYE time is upon them and is only just beginning
You may find these types moving right next to you.
There is already one poster here who says she is moving out of the projects in 2008 and out of Newark after 37 years.
Hmm??
Why move after so much time?
This person is a pro it seems?
SHE DID NOT MENTION that
the reason is that they are going to blow up the remaining public project buildings in 2008 to make room for parks rec. centers and private affordable housing 'to-buy' NOT RENT. She really is not "moving" from Newark as she states;
actually her and her 'riff-raff' are being thrown out of Newark.
Say what you want that someone should not move to Newark; I can relate to this a little. But the facts are just not on the side of such thinking. As we speak people are moving into homes and new condos and offices spaces, the Devils Hockey team is settling in as well as the NJ Philharmonic.
Newark is not for everybody right now. Just for those who know what up and are ready to position themsleves now for where the City is going and and many respects have already arrived.
Of course none of this have anything to do with you and your kind.
