Question Roselle, NJ

Hello. I'd like to hear from people who know the area. I don't know much about it, but I've seen some houses there in our price-range. We have small children and we would like to move somewhere we could raise them and feel comfortable in.

Is Roselle a decent place to live and raise a family? What can you tell me about it from your experience?

What is the area of Sheridan Ave off E 3rd Ave like?

Thanks in advance.

Roselle is a nice place to live if you like the hustle and bustle. It is not as bad as Elizabeth or Roselle Park. In a nutshell.

Not as bad as Elizabeth but not as good as Roselle Park or Clark

Sheridan Avenue and 3rd is an okay place

a lot of mixed races from black to Mexicans to Central Americans

Roselle High School is one of the worst High Schools in the area

There was a case once where a girl was raped and beating in the girls bathroom because she was Hispanic. (it was quite a scandal on the paper for s while).

Don't think I would personally want to live there....not with kids.

Anything I can do to help.

I would not reccommend the area for families. I work in the area and I know many families that are upset they bought in Roselle and wish they could get out. One of the teenagers I work with got mugged last week at 6/7:00 pm and in January there was a shooting around 6:00pm on a week day. I know of several rapes that have happened recently but not in the schools.

Also, the house prices are low but the taxes are extremely high for the lack of services you get. Also, the houses in Roselle usually do not raise in value so you could potentially lose money. The current area you are looking in is a decent part of Roselle. If you are interested in the area, I would rent there for a year before buying a house. There are some beautiful parts of Roselle, but I woul say on the West side bordering Cranford and send your kids to Roselle Catholic.

From personal experience - the school system is horrendous for a multitude of reasons...

Personally, I really like Cranford (which is right next door). Roselle Park is also a good option...just not Roselle.

^^ I thought Roselle Park was better?
I may be wrong.

Roselle is decent. If you have kids or plan to raise a family there, then I'd suggest you look elsewhere.

While I do not live in the immediate area I would stay away from Roselle at all costs. While its cheap, you can look at a nearby town such as Union or Roselle Park, both are much safer. Heck, id live in parts of hillside before Roselle.

Really? Why? Explain? Looks like we're hearing other things from other people.

Wink I love Roselle

My husband and I purchased a home in Roselle 9 years ago and we do not have any regrets. My neighbors are great! I raised a neice and she went to Abraham Clark for a minute. It is not one of the best schools in Roselle, but it is the only public high school. The other school there is Roselle Catholic. I was adviseed not to move on the eastside of Roselle. I am so glad I took heed to that advice. However, the westside is great! Due to the fact the Roselle does not have a lot of businesses, the taxes are high. I complain all the time about the taxes, but I love Roselle just the same.
