So, basically, you're looking for someplace with 2 acres, where the kids go to Hunterdon Central, then? I hope you've got $1 million plus to play with, as that's likely what it'll cost you to find that kind of property in an area that sends to HC.

I live in Hunterdon
in the Hunterdon Central sending district and you can buy a very nice, newer home in high 600,000's on over an acre. The building and real estate market is not good here now and it is a buyer's market. Good Luck! We love it here it is beautiful and a great place to raise a family.

grew up in hunterdon
Have you looked into Holland Township? I think its Hunterdon's hidden gem, as long as your work is not too far away. Del Val is the HS, much smaller than HCHS, I would have no problem sending my kids to that school. Great community, good people. I moved here 5yrs ago from Readington with my family and sorry to say that I must leave due to a job relo. Best of luck.

yrgm... funny you mentioned Holland as I was just on the township site a few says ago. I have no problems with DV high. It seems that teachers do not get paid as well as other places in the state. Not in holland per say but in hunterdon county in general. Will be taking my time with the move as I need to find a teaching job in a K-8 district and a home in the same district so my children will be in the same district with me ( a lifelong dream). Thanks for the well wishes, and to you too.

Hi. I grew up in Readington in Hunterdon County. As an adult I moved back and lived in a big, beautiful house in Lebanon Township. It was not for me, I prefer a more urban environment.
That being said, the top school in Hunterdon County is North Hunterdon, then Hunterdon Central, and then Vorhees. I think the rest of the highschools are not rated as well. Central and North are very large, as a parent I would not be thrilled with that. Vorhees is the same district as North, but quite a bit smaller.
If I was looking for a rural setting, reasonable, but with good schools, I would look at: Lebanon Township, Union Township, and maybe Stockton. A little less reasonable, and a little more suburban would be: Readington, Clinton, and Raritan.
Good luck!!

I disagree about Stockton. Stay away! It floods, it is right on the Delaware River and while charming, I have a friend who lives there who has been flooded three times in the last 18 months.

I believe Stockton is also in the South Hunterdon HS district which you did not want. According to the Hunterdon Co Democrat last year Del Val and the Holland Township school scored above the big regional schools. I wouldnt hesitate to put my kids in North, Central or Voorhees for one second. But I wouldnt call the big schools better, just a matter of personal taste. If there is a need for special education, then the bigger schools are for you. I graduated from Central, you can find trouble there if your looking for it, but hopefully we raise our kids to make the right choices. You cant go wrong with any Hunterdon Co. school, even South Hunterdon is above average compared to the rest of the state. Good Luck.
