I'm surprised that you want to stop "the system" in favor of doing things more like the systems in the (Southern?) states. If we do that, then NJ will become a (rural?) state. I guess a lot of people want to save a few bucks today even at the cost of becoming a state of (small-town folk?) tomorrow.

OK. When time are good and people in the private sector are getting their salaries doubled or matched with bonuses, do the same for us public employees.

I So agree. Christie made it perfectly clear during his campaign.

Who is that happening for?

Government jobs pay better than private sector jobs here. Ability to retire at 50, no contribution for health insurance, and defined benefit pensions, and you still have your hand out.

"The system" has bankrupted the state. The gravy train has lost it's wheels.

Wrong. Christie Whitman bankrupted the state when she dipped into the system (which was fine for all the years it was left alone) so that she could play Santa Claus and send everyone rebates and cut taxes and spending as if she had the resources to do so when in fact she raided the pension fund, essentially stealing that money for her own political gain.

And why do you say that our military, who lay their lives on the line to defend our freedom, are basically on welfare and getting handouts? You never answered when I asked you that earlier.

And why is Gov. Christie collecting a salary? Why doesn't he cut his own salary and benefits???

Whitman didnt dip into anything. She issued pension obligation bonds to plug the hole in the budget caused precisely by the ridiculous pension obligation this state has.

This can never happen with the 401K the rest of us get.

Do you have a source for that figure ? That number is not typical in the private sector. Not even all financial sector employees get bonus equal to their base pay (though it's common among investment bankers).

The median salary in NJ went up by about 20% during the housing bubble, while property tax revenue went up by 50% or so.

What Christie is trying to do is bring costs back down to earth, and at the very least stall a trend where the public sector is outgrowing the private sector. It would be nice if there were an easy and painless way to achieve this, but there isn't.
