There were other sponsors that featured tobacco, alcohol, and Cluck U Chicken with a provocative statement behind the advertisement, according to the article. If those sponsors were permitted, and the gun dealership was not, then this wreaks of the typical New Jersey mentality of anti-gun ownership. Mind you, I have never owned a gun in my life, nor do I intend to, but the subject matter at hand is a legitimate business.
This would draw huge guffaws in New Mexico, or probably just about any other state. This would draw ridicule in Vermont, for gods sake. That league would be laughed right out of existence.
Of course, the opposite tact could also be used, as an argument for state's rights. It just goes to show how very different this country's make up is, and how local and state standards should prevail. What's good for New Jersey might not necessarily be good for Wisconsin.
Its a bit weak to reject this guy, but not reject booze or smokes. Why are folks so dead set against gun dealers? There are good gun dealers and bad, just as with any other profession.
I agree, it's a little ridiculous for the league to act all high and mighty about guns and have no issue with tobacco and alcohol. Which of those things kills far more Americans than the other?
He should not be discriminated against same as you wouldn't discriminate against a hardware store or pizza joint, etc. that is unfair and close minded and prejudice.
And if a person really considered themselves "liberal" that should mean they would have no problem having people exposed to all kinds of life learning experiences, rather than the other way around.
I think more that liberals really are the opposite, wanting to control what you see, hear, etc.

Just saw on the news where a kid held his hand in such a way as to mimic an old fahioned, "this way" sign better known today as a GUN.

My friend's grandson pastes some random objects to a piece of construction paper which resembled nothing. When asked what it was was, he replied, 'a gun'. Teacher sent a warning note home with the kid.
Someone passed on a story about a recent war hero and what he did to receive the Navy Cross. He was a true hero even though he didin't break a home run record or have the highest score in a basketball game.
He achieved his honor with the use of a GUN. We never see these stories of heroism and I have to wonder if the politically correct main stream media does this intentionally. Our true American heroes also include guys with guns whose individual and collective sacrifices provide the field of dreams on which the other 'sports heroes' PLAY.
Kids teams have been sponsored by bars and no one complains. If the author was any kind of a legitimate journalist he would have explored this dicotomy of outrage for his readers.
I'd be proud to have the kids' team sponsored by a gun shop. On the other hand if I protested the gunshop sponsorship I'd be weeding out the videos, movies and lyrics my kid had access to....just to be consistent.
There is an irrational fear of firearms to the point firearm safety is not taught in schools thus exposing children to the 'danger' feared most.
am kind of perplexed they would deny him. i guess it's their right though. however, i guess i'll see his sponsorship this summer with rugby (my son's part of morris rugby).
