Hi,
Will be moving to NJ in the summer. My office is located near WTC and my wife's in Princeton. Right now we are little confused about where to stay cause in any case it seems one of us have to commute >> the other one. Our choices include New Brunswick (close to Princeton) in one hand and places near NY (hoboken or places near jersey city) in the other. Any suggestions about places (right now we are looking for apt/condos basically) ?

Thanks in advance,
--d

You might want to look at the towns that offer train service between WTC and Princeton New Jersey Transit map

Loads of options, depending on your needs and wants!

  • As someone else pointed out, Metuchen is a good place to be in.
  • Commuting to-and-from Princeton (or Plainsboro) is a big pain, and I won't recommend it.
  • You could live in New Brunswick (they have quite a few good apartment bldgs/complexes within walking distance from the station), take the train, while your wife could drive (or take the train) to Princeton.
  • Rahway has quite a few new apartment bldgs 2 to 3 blocks from the train station, so you might want to cosider it too.

What exactly are you looking for in a town to move to? Schools? Safety? Price?

Monroe or S.Brunswick by the 8a Park and Ride. Theres a direct bus to wall street and the WTC area so it saves you the inconvenience of taking a train and a subway to downtown. Theres also a bus that picks you up by the WTC rebuilding site till 7pm. Its basically the same cost as train and parking at Princ Junct when you figure in parking and bus tickets.

thanks for all the replies . I should check NJ Transit Map as suggested. As far as our preferred parameters, we both prefer urban places (cultural events, places to eat etc.) with good safe neighborhood.

apartment bldg/complexes withing walking distance from train station (New Brunswick) sounds really nice. In that case, how someone travel to NYC? Change train from Newark Penn station for PATH?

thanks,

In New Brunswick, to get to WTC you would change trains at Newark Penn Station for PATH. If you are looking to get into mid-town, then you could take NJ Transit straight into New York Penn Station.

Just a note for your wife, she can take NJ Transit down to Princeton Junction and take the Jitney over to Princeton Station which is located just off Alexander Road. If she is working at Princeton University, thn it may be upwards of a ten minute walk to her building.

However, do keep in mind that there are limited to zero transportation options to any of the outlying office parks like Carnegie Center or Princeton Forrestal Village. If she is working at one of these sites, she will probably need to look at getting a daily driver and taking Route 27 S to either Henderson Road or Beekman Lane to Route 1 S to her destination.
