We have State Police and each town has their own Police force. Towns that don't have a police department are patrolled by State Police.

What are the County Police responsibilities?

They also can do county roads. County parks... etc.

Yes, there are several down here. The whole of route 49 and from Tuckahoe to the border of Millville, which is probably 20-30 miles, is all covered by state police because the towns themselves are too small and rural to warrant their own.

A county like Bergen County has a swat team, scuba divers, helicopter, police academy ans so forth. It backs up many small towns. Hudson County disbanded theirs years ago because they usually just patrolled county parks and buildings. They turned that mission over to the sheriffs department. IMO they are not needed in some counties because they have large local PDs. But in some counties they are useful.

This. And county park police do the same.

Each town gets a local PD, county sheriff's office, county prosecutor's office, county police department, and county park police.

From what i see they used to just patrol the county parks, then they became County Fuzzolini. These years I see them bring out a communications trailer to various county events like concerts, etc. Things we used to do as volunteers back in the Civil defense days, play with walkie talkies, send radio messages, etc. They also are in OEM around here, another good-ole-boy radio club.

How about only county police for Bergen County and no police departments for all those boroughs, have the whole county patrolled by one police department, it'd save an awful lot of money.

I used to go to school up there, every other mile you're in another little town.
