I will be driving to Florida with my husband and 4 kids.
My question is - Would it be better to rent an SUV or a Minivan??

Which one is more spacious? Gas guzzler??

Renting from Buget. I believe they are the cheapest with unlimited mileage.

While the SUV may look nicer, the minivan will give you the most space and return slightly better fuel economy (assuming by SUV you are refering to something like a Suburban). The big catch on most SUV's is that storage space with the third row seat in use is very limited, while minivans still tend to have at least a decent amount of storage behind the third seat.

i agree with NJGoat, a minivan would be more comfortable for long trips.

Definitely the mini van. I'd also check out some car dealerships. I used to rent mini vans from a car dealership for less than what the commercial rental companies were charging.

SUVs can also be exempt from credit card insurance as they are classified as trucks, whereas the minivan is a passenger vehicle. I'd check into the coverage limitations on your credit card to be sure, but I do know some exclude them, which requires the purchase of the liability insurance, or you assume the risk for damage to the vehicle.
