Only 69,000 out of 250,000 who are required to get the stickers have bought them from the DMV.
Good for them. I think this law is crazy. I would rather risk the $100 fine then put on the stickers. You would probably get $100 just in nonsense fines if you had the stickers on, especially if you drive past 9 PM or so at night.
I gotta wonder where the ACLU is on this. I would think this would be something they would be all about, but as far as I know, they have had no position thus far.
Robert Schroeder, a Bergen county assemblyman has already filed to overturn the law. I think in the long run, it will be overturned. I dont see how this can be upheld in court....
I'm still trying to understand what this law is supposed to prevent or help. it's a stupid law. I have cousins in high school who are scared that they are going to be pulled over after leaving the prom. Speaking of, prom season is coming up and I'd be willing to bet that there will be reports all around NJ of cops just sitting outside the prom venue at the end of the night and pulling over anyone who doesn't have the decals.
Edit: ^ Good question. What is this law trying to prevent? Moderator cut: A bit of an extreme comparison So, you're in that particular age group. We got that. But then, what? >_> If you're speeding within that age group and get caught, you're still asked to show your identification anyways, right?
Yeah, this law is crazy. Hopefully, it does get over-turned.

Reason: Removed comparison as it's a bit extreme, and inciting debate over the comment, not the issue.
Strongly against this oppressive measure by big brother, and support its overturning.
This is a time for the kids in this state to show some balls, get a bit political, and bite Trenton's overreaching hand. Trenton won't cooperate? Draw a little blood.
Make this law a nightmare to enforce. It's just one of many steps in the ultimate NJ state government plan to eventually regulate what you have with your cereal in the morning, whether people over 60 can operate a lawnmower, and when we can use the bathroom. The state might as well pass a bedtime law for youngsters. This is getting over the top.
The law is just plain discriminatory. It is supposed to be against the law to discriminate because of age. If and when, and it's already been reported that cops are pulling people over and writing horsecrap tickets for trivial items to kids, that will be the end. The cops themselves will be shooting themselves in the foot on this one. Any such summonses written as a result of these stickers should be invalidated and dismissed since they are based on discrimination.
Might have to call the Supremes on this one and have them sing their song.
This is a dumb law. I hope the police won't enforce it.Politicians at their best. 11 billion in the hole, people getting laid off, taxes soaring and they sit around Trenton voting about putting little bright stickers on kids license plates. The politicians should be flogged in front of the dome in Trenton.
Dumb stupid law and if I had kids in that age group, especially a daughter i don't think I would be so quick to stick that sticker on....total BS feel good law.
While I do sympathize with the mother who brought this bill to the table ..her daughter made very poor choices ignoring the law already in place and truth be told I don't know if a "sticker" would have prevented it...now all must pay for her daughter's stupidity

Moderator cut: Removed orphaned quote
Perspective: the state is targeting a select group of people for a specific reason that is based on a perception of their actions and requiring them to wear or otherwise display a specific identifier that others are not required to wear or display.
In both cases the requirement for the display of the identifier was to ensure government representatives would clearly recognize the person as being part of that group. Moderator cut: Orphaned sentence Here, government has provided the tracking mechanism for predators to do the same thing, if not worse, because the identifier is specifically for the young, immature, and naive.
