The problem with school funding in Nj is that the state does not provide its fair share. Municipal taxes have to make up for the lack of state funding. NJ ranks 45th in the country in funding public education from the state level. This has been the case for some time now. If NJ (Trenton) actually did the right thing with the money municipal taxes would be much lower. Of course people always overlook this and blame everybody but Trenton.
This makes no sense. what difference does it make if the money comes from, the state or the municipalities, it all comes from the tax payers. So property taxes would be lower and state taxes would be higher. It all comes from the same pocket. When you go to the grocery store do you pay with money from your right pocket or left pocket?

Your comment shows just how little you know about school funding. NJ (Trenton) receives revenues from many other areas then just property taxes. NJ (Trenton) passes on the cost of education to the municipalities therefore your taxes are higher. If they actually used the money that Trenton receives correctly your taxes wouldn't be soo high.
Do you understand that or should I spell it out. It is no surprise that the worst education funding states all have the highest property taxes. The states pass on the cost to the towns. Sorry if this hurts but its true and of course you have no idea what you are talking about.

Umm I am still awaiting your response? Let me guess, you really dont know what you are talking about and rather just go with the righty talking points? Tell me why NJ passes on education cost to local government?

Because the Supreme Court took over school funding from the legislature and gives the lion's share of the state's funding to 31 school districts while the other 550+ fight over the scraps.

Sorry have a life. So your argument is the municipalities don't know what they are doing , but Trenton does? That's laughable. The problem NJ has is not that we are not using resources wisely, it is that we are spending too much money. You have not presented any evidence that if the money came from Trenton that the cost of education would be less. I have evidence that shows the contrary. Abbott program.....
You either pay for education through your municipality or the state. The same amount of money would be required to educate the children.
Wow- 300 teachers just in Edison. We've got people freaking out down here about having 580 layoffs in a county district that serves 106,000 students, and Edison is cutting more than 1/2 that many teachers in a district of 14,000 students. It's not going to be pretty......
Bob it really puts it all into perspective doesn't it?
About 70 Newark City Hall employees get termination notices in first wave of cutbacks
This is sad and I feel sorry for the people affected, but why the breathlessness? This has been going on in the private sector for the last year. There is 10% unemployment. Why is this any more important than private sector layoffs?
