Question Family-oriented but not party time places on Jersey Shore

We are planning to spend a couple of days on the shore with our kid and would appreciate hearing some recommendations about quiet, family-oriented places on the shore. I am hoping to avoid hordes of drunk college kids / horseplay and such....families are fine. From a brief online search, it appears that Avalon is quite nice...Wildwood has a boardwalk and seems to be more on the boisterous side...We are interested in seeing Cape May. What are your thoughts? How is Point Pleasant and beaches a bit up north?

Would love to hear from you all ... Thanks in advance.

Default Suggestions

I would suggest a couple of beaches.

1) Ocean Grove is a very family oriented beach. It it quiet and has a boardwalk. You can also walk around and see the town. Just avoid Asbury Park to the north. It is located off Exit 100A from the Parkway.

2) Cape May is an even better choice and my personal recommendation for a short stay. It is located at the very southern end of the state and has undergone extensive upgrades that have brought the town back to a really nice area. The area has many Victorian homes, many of them Bed & Breakfasts and the beaches are clean. The Cape May Zoo is nearby. It is free and a great place for kids. I have been there a few times and plan on bringing my daughter there as well.

Check out this website that will give you more detailed information on each of the NJ shore towns.

I always liked Stone Harbor it's very family and.......it's not a long drive to get to WildWood for the "one night" of maddness if you choose..

Ocean City, NJ is perfect for families. It's a dry town so no drunk college kids. There is a huge boardwalk with water park and amusement park rides. And the beaches are great. I have family there so I grew up there and continue to go there as an adult...and I love it...and think it's prefect for families! It is also very close to Cape May...which is also beautiful...and would be a good day trip...but I don't think Cape May would be as fun for the kids as Ocean City.

I agree that Stone Harbor is great as is Avalon. They are both quite close to Cape May. Any of the three would be a good choice.

cape may would be an excellent choice, check out ocean city, and stone harbor, wildwood is very honky tonk but south of there towards cape may is ok
There is also LBI and further north is spring lake.
all quiet towns that aren't over run with drunken frat boys

I was going to say Ocean City too--nice and family friendly
