Dover/ Randolph --- Don't do it!

If you are looking for more night-life, Morristown is the way to go. It's further away (but still a fine commute) and more expensive, but much more going on.

Hi.
I live in one of the several rental communities near Dover. We won't be staying. Dover is really really seedy (although some pretty old homes --- too bad nobody kept them up) The rentals in Randolph are all right next to each other, up and down Center Grove and Quaker Church Roads --- they are all over priced and rundown. There are about 4 complexes they are all exactly the same , badly maintained and over priced. The area gets very noisy at times and lately I have been finding drug paraphernalia on the sidewalk on Center Grove Road. Also, if you will need to look for work, Randolph and Dover are not the place to be.
My suggestion would be to look at a town called Lake Hiawatha and/or Parsippany.

Dover is NOT dangerous
http://www.city-data.com/city/Dover-New-Jersey.html
It is very Hispanic, and if you are Anglo you might not be comfortable since you speak the wrong language, but we are not talking remotely a true ghetto here. A bit worn. Less expensive real estate. I drive through it all the time and have never felt threatened.

It's a shame really that only speaking English in any American town can make you uncomfortable. It's a disgrace that speaking English in America can ever be considered the "wrong" language.

Hello
Although I was born in Virginia, I was raised in Dover, New Jersey. It really is a wonderful town, and I freqeuntly visit. The flea market that they hold is wonderful, and I bet you will find something that you like . Please disregard all the nonsense about how ghetto the city is, because downtown dover, especially East Blackwell Street, are fine to walk around on, and by the train station, there are some very good restaurants that you should try! Dover is a great city, no matter what anyone says

That's outrageous to say English is the "wrong language" anywhere inside this country.

Depends what your definition of "here" is. According to the history books the Dutch were the first ones to settle in the NY/NJ area. That's why it was called New Netherland before the English took it over and renamed it New York. Unless you consider "here" to be Mexico and Florida. Since that time English has ALWAYS been the official language of this country. No one ever thought it was necessary to put it into writing since every immigrant group that came here (up until this latest group) always wanted to assimilate and speak our language and become Americans. Unfortunately this is not the case today. Many of today's immigrants (or illegal invaders) have no intention or desire to become Americans and are only here to steal our money, use our services (schools, hospitals, welfare, medicaid, food stamps, etc.) and contribute nothing in return except to turn this once great country into a third world country such as where these people originally came from. It's really ashame but due to a lack of leadership and politicians who only care about getting reelected rather than what's best for the country the downward slide will continue for the foreseeable future.

LOL...Spanish...dutch - do we not remember the American Indian? OP - it is a nice town and ignorant people tend to think that if you speak spanish you must be a criminal!!!! Another area close by that you might like as well is Denville. There are alot of rentals in the town itself. Nice little main street - plenty of places to eat / shop.

Denville is a nice town with some decent rentals. Rockaway is also not bad for rental and local populace. The toughest things on the streets of Rockaway are 12-year-old skaters, so if you can take them, you'll be fine.

I drive thru dover to get to route 46 to go to the gym, now I dont see it bad. I mean its old, and has some character. I am by route 46 the walgreens and some bars, its kinda like old NJ. I like it, dumpy character but not like some cities in NJ. Its fine.
